I've just spent two hours cleaning it up. I have too many idiot users who can't remember not to open strange attachments.

Just curious, how do the "idiot" users rate their IT support?

OUr company just got it. I saw the article on MSNBC.com AFTER we got it. Either the virus or our IT department have frozen up our Outlook. If it's sitting in my inbox, I can't get in there to delete it.

I've thwarted a couple of viruses at work before, but I think we're screwed this time.

Why do you even let users receive attachments that can be executed in the first place? Try out a package called Postfix as your SMTP server. It makes blocking harmful attachments a snap.

Is that Saturday Night Live skit based on you? "Your Company's Computer Guy". Hilarious.

I feel your pain (I know, I know, but I REALLY do). My deepest sympathy. The ability of users to do the stupidest things never ceases to amaze me.

You'll like these stories if you don't already know of them.

Does Microsoft own stock in the anti-virus companies? In other words, why doesn't MS fix its sh*t and eliminate product features that harbor these viruses? Sheesh.

Not just strange attachmnents. Don't open any attachements.

And if you have a business, don't let everyone in the office hook their computers - and your network - to the internet.

Set up seperate computers as internet and email stations, which will solve two problems. First, it will keep internet viruses out of you network. Second, it greatly reduces the amount of time employees spend playing on the internet. They are a lot more aware of time they are spending when at a shared station.

Put the shared station out in the open, not in a seperate room or office.

Same thing generally happens to me. You warn people and it's totally useless. CPA's making 6 figures, but are dumber than a bag of hammers. This hasn't hit me yet, but it has hit two companies we do business with already, so it's just a matter of time.
