The above web link describes the GONER VIRUS/WORM and the potential damage.
The good news is that YOU MUST OPEN THE SCREENSAVER ATTACHMENT TO BE INFECTED.
Evidence that your PC is infected is the presence of the file GONE.SCR
The McAfee Web Server is overloaded by people trying to get into the site.
Here is a CLICKABLE link to the McAfee web site:
Goner Virus Info from McAfee (12/04/2001)
This virus has appeared on the Internet just today (Tuesday, December 4, 2001).
I can email people information about the virus, but I have it in Microsoft Doc/RTF format currently because it had pictures and graphics about what appears on the PC.

I don't "pick up women", Sales is only difficult when it comes to the "gut check". Some folks can't face walking into a room full of strangers and asking for money. Or even explaining how the new software works. Communication is the key. Complaints >> /dev/null. Grin!

A file Nome? You got a file Nome with your computer? I want one of those...no make it a couple hundred. ;-)
To: mag
There's no cleaner, you have to delete the file it resides in. Usually it's in your temporary internet files, but I have seen one variant of it that goes to other places, so it's best to go
here, run a full scan and delete the file(s) that contain it.

I received the email but I didn't download anything and I deleted it do I have the virus? Anyone know?
To: charphar
Whoa! Wait a minute! I thought the line is that "Macs don't get viruses!" Hmmmmm..... It was B.S. A Macintosh can receive it via e-mail, but it won't cause an infection on the Mac.
Perhaps Aquinasfan's office has a Windows machine running Outlook server.

The very same thing just happened to me! I wrote my friend back warning her because this virus obviously attaches to people's email and sends itself!Yeah, I had to do the same thing, seems like these virus writing idiots could get a life and do something productive...
To: Mr. Jeeves
Same thing generally happens to me. You warn people and it's totally useless. CPA's making 6 figures, but are dumber than a bag of hammers. This hasn't hit me yet, but it has hit two companies we do business with already, so it's just a matter of time.

It's not supposed to 'enable' you to have the latest cool screensaver.

Would you hire a person who can't type to be a typist? Or would you hire a person who can't drive to be a driver? No? Neither should you hire the computer-illiterate to use computers. I cannot imagine that an employee who opens virus-laden attachments is a profitable employee. And on that "profitable employee" note if my business required employees use computers, and I found out they spent ANY of MY time on Freerepublic or anything else not business related they'd be fired....no matter how "computer literate" they are...

We're back up today though.
To: clueless idiot
The subject is "Hi" and the message text is: ---
How are you ?
When I saw this screen saver, I immediately thought about you
I am in a harry, I promise you will love it!
Not always. One of the copies I got sent was on a forward with a different header and a different message.

Nome (fr) - Name
Any good French to English dictionary will do...
Actually, typos have caused me more embarrassment than I ever would admit. Hope you changed you Nome settings if you hadn't already done so.

"thanks, Carolyn"
You're welcome. If you don't mind, I'd like to send the rest of your reply to our local firm of "computer geeks," without whom we would be in deep trouble most of the time. I'm sure it would strike a chord with them!

I've been trying to help my best friend's girlfriend remove two viruses, one of which is this one. Her computer is 50 miles away from me, a different OS than I use, and something weird is going on with it. Apparently WinME (gag!) is protecting the infected file or something. I may have to drive over there this weekend.f

I'd like to send the rest of your reply to our local firm of "computer geeks only if you promise to correct my spelling error in the second paragraph.
"experiences" should be "experienced"
since i type all my replies in Word, (on the fly spell checker) that one got by me.
users need a "do what i mean" button on their computers, and i need
a "say what i mean" feature in my word processor. sheesh.
