The follwoing is an excerpt from a speech given by OMB Director Mitch Daniels concerning a conversation between himself and George W. Bush, just after the WTC attacks:
"He had always listed, throughout his campaign and since, the reasons why the nation might depart from this policy, reasons he had given as acceptable for running fiscal deficits: for war, recession, or emergency. As he said to me in mid-September, "Lucky me. I hit the trifecta."
In this quote, Bush seens to consider the death of thousands of innocents a personal stroke of luck. Comments?

I think you have him confused with Clinton. Clinton would of said it and actually meant it.

I am just posting what I saw on the OMB website....check it out for yourself....

Irony is lost on you, isn't it?

Sounds like Mr. Bush was being sarcastic. Liberals wouldn't recognize sarcasm because it is a form of humor, and except for liberal comedians in Hollywood, liberals on the whole don't understand humor: They don't see how someone can laugh and be happy when there is so much capitalism, err, evil in the world.
To: Boise Bulldog
Ever heard of sarcasm as an effective way of expressing a thought? As in, lucky me I need a colonoscopy!"

Comments? How about... "you're an idiot"
or
"out for a troll?"
or
"Irony, n. the use of words to express something other than and especially the opposite of the literal meaning"
To: Boise Bulldog
It appears Mr. Daniels is due for a trip to the woodshed. I am reminded of the *ucker Carlson's sellout to the liberals with the "Pwease don't kill me" story during the campaign.
To: Miss Marple
Sorry, I just don't think that even if this was said 'tongue in cheek', that it is an appropriate subject to joke about, and even less appropriate to post on a government website.
To: Cyber Liberty
Why? Just because idiots take it out context?

I think you are reading way too much in a sad statement. good grief!
To: rth_sr
You said it better than I did. As for the colonoscopy, there is an a--h--- who needs it.
To: Boise Bulldog
W certainly spoke the ironic truth.
To: marajade
How was it taken out of context? Go look at the site, then come back and answer the question....it is the 15th paragraph down.
To: Boise Bulldog
If it was said, it was obviously said with humour, but it's not an irreverant remark. It's a comment given in almost disbelief that all three circumstances would arise and so quickly. Remember, he was predicting on the campaign trail not just running surpluses but "bigger surpluses" for his administration. So it's akin so saying, "Can you believe this situation?"
To: Boise Bulldog
Like you believe everything you see on a GOVERNMENT WEBSITE???? Hey dude, I have a bridge in Brooklyn I'm selling, interested?

Good grief, nobody can recognize sarcasm anymore.
WIFE: You have to drive mom to the airport.
HUSB: Lucky me.
Does "lucky me" mean he thinks he was lucky? Sheesh.
