"He's devoted to this religious conversion to Islam, but to me, he was always the same kid."

This doesn't exactly fit too well with the propaganda put out that Islam is a peaceful religion or that Islam. Even a US born and raised boy who converts to Islam supports the killing of 6000 innocent Americans and supports terrorists. It seems like there is actually a very strong link between Islam and terrorism. There is something in that Koran that isn't very good.

The same media dimwits calling this kid "brilliant" said the Unabomber was a "tragic genius."

Good grief, I hope we aren't going to be subjected to hours of these whining parents on all the talking head shows. The kid is a goner. He made his bad choices. I plan on changing the channel everytime these losers get airtime.

Both John's father, Frank Lindh, a strict Irish Catholic, and his mother, Marilyn Walker, a Buddhist, were supportive of their son's new faith.

like it or not - they are both too stupid to realize thier multi faith/god household is bahai'as a result

additionally, a self taught anything is dangerous, be it a muslim, a cook or conservative ;)

MOM and Dad sound like 60's leftovers who will use this to undermine Bush -

I hadnt noticed, but had he renounced his citizenship beforehand? - if so, wont he get treated like any other taliwhacker ?

That's a self-contradicting title.

I have a hard time believing his father was a STRICT Irish Catholic; if so he wouldn't have whole heartedly supported his move over to Islam. His parents are divorced, and I think the young man was just looking for something, anything to fill the void. I said on a different thread the other day that Islam for this him was like a cult. The mosque was a welcoming place for him; something that must have been lacking in his life. As the saying goes; when you don't believe in SOMETHING you'll fall for anything. His parents had obviously not instilled any strong faith beliefs in him with ANY religion, so Islam filled that longing which is in everyone; as one of the saints (Benedict or Ignatius of Loyola ? )said, "Our hearts are restless until they rest in Thee"

This "sweet, smart kid" has bought himself a cell in Leavenworth for the next many, many years. Didn't anyone ever teach him the definition of treason?

Religion still has a vital role to play in the life of people. When you take it out of every aspect of children's lives, they are sometimes quite profoundly drawn back to it by their own instincts. What has bland and colorless atheism with reams of Political Correct idiot forms to offer in it's place? Nothing but idle entertainment for the non-thinking.

This man was raised that truth is relative, there is no right and wrong, it is just whatever your opinion is. He had no structure, therefore he doesn't know boundaries.
They raised him to have an open mind, then when he gets caught being a traitor to his country, they cry that he was brainwashed.
Had they given him a solid foundation he might have made better choices, but to blame others now for the fact that they shirked their responsibility to train their child is just disgusting.

This young man will be the liberals Icon to undermine the war on terrorism. Any trial will be OJ& Rodney King all rolled into one.

The following excerpt is from here: www.sfgate.com

For instance, he was studying Arabic language and culture in Yemen last year when the U.S. destroyer Cole was bombed, reportedly by bin Laden operatives, and he told his father the attack was a "justified response."

That made it clear, Lindh said, that the boy had developed a different point of view.

Why would a Catholic marry a Bhuddist, and allow his child to practice Islam under his own roof?

This dad is not what I suppose Catholics would be eager to use as the best example of a strict Catholic.

Give him his wish. Let him remain among the taliban, never to return to America. I suspect death would be a kinder fate for him.

Some brilliance!
