Well, the lighting of the Christmas, er - Holiday, tree took place yesterday in Kensington. Despite the wishes of the city council, hundreds of Santa Clauses showed up, and one did, in fact, ride in on a fire truck - as had been done in years past. No comment was forthcoming from the chair of the council.
Secretary Rumsfeld has a message for the remaining defenders of the Talibums in Afgoneistan. It is very simple; sufficiently so that I think they should understand: Surrender, or die. There are reports the remaining enemy elements in Kandahar are considering defying the Mullah and are contemplating surrender.

Our President took the measure of the man and came away believing he can be an ally. That is enough for me ... as I believe President Bush has an uncanny ability to read people ...
But Putin is a product of a people, a culture and a time which does not flow smoothly with our current times. ... and never has in our past.
He is a dangerous fellow ... and I honor him for that ... but I believe he has many obligations which, if not met ... don't sink his poll numbers ... but puts him head first in a snow covered Russian field.
In some ways he reminds me of our last dog ... quite friendly to us but otherwise quite mean. As she got sicker ... cancer ... she regrettably turned on us ... as if she was cornered and had no other choice. Her final night here ... I approached her ... and she gave me a look as if to say, "Please ... this I will not be able to stop. Come closer and I will bite you ..."
Well ... shoot ... inflicting calls ... but I am of a mood, tonight, to keep you busy all over the place!!!

Illstillbe, I am not naive. It just makes sense that Russia would throw its lot in with the west. They have China hungering for Siberia, and the nut-case Islamicists are on their south as well. We are the only ones who have the ability, financial memans, and willingness to help them get their energy industry operating well, both in petrolum and in mining.
What benefit would there be for Putin to stab us in the back? Kudos from China? THEY want to rule Russia, remember. Currying favor with Islam, when they have been fighting Chechnya for the last 5 years? Yes, I know that they have people in Iraq, but so do the French.
Condi Rice isn't stupid, and I believe I will follow her lead.
I have one last paper I need to finish for my sister-in-law..the girl child WAS working on it,but has declared it too difficult...toothpics firmly wedged between eyelids...
And that toothpick remark was that they are what are holding up my eyelids..which weight 100lbs each..LOL

Kayak: Hope you are feeling well this evening. Was kept busy this weekend reading and posting on what is going on in the Middle East. My son-in-law is in the AF and there's a possibility he will be called to do a second tour in Kuwait. Describing that region as a "powder keg" is putting it mildly.....
illstillbe: Never give up on humanity. At times I want to SO BAD, but something keeps pulling me back. I think there's a point where a person can care too much.

The short, sometimes very short, chapters are good, because of the tension of the story...
They allow for frequent breaks and relief from what seems like one disaster after another.....
I was thinking about getting it........seems like it would be awfully depressing?......is it uplifting, as well?
