P.C. Town Bans Santa Claus

Is something strange in the water in Montgomery County, Md.? This enclave of leftist thought police is notorious for censoring Indian nicknames of sports teams and trying to criminalize smoking in private homes. Now one of its towns has banned Santa Claus.

Kensington Mayor Lynn Raufaste says that a mere two families "felt that they would be uncomfortable" with Santa being part of the annual Christmas tree lighting. So the town council gave St. Nick the heave-ho-ho-ho.

These two families, who don't celebrate Christmas, say they feel excluded because - duh - Santa is synonymous with the holiday.

In years past, Santa would arrive on a fire truck and light the tree with the mayor. But on Sunday, the mayor will light the tree herself, something she calls "a shame," WJLA-TV reported today.

How come kooky, out-of-touch bureaucrats and politicians have no consideration for the majority who are "uncomfortable" with P.C. idiocy?

We know there are plenty of good, sensible people in Montgomery County, because some of them have written to us about the Berserkley-like nonsense going on there. It is time for the silent majority to contact their elected officials and roar.

My e-mail to the mayor of Kennsington

Dear Miss Kitty:
My fellow Freepers are going to show up at your 'holiday tree' lighting dressed as Santa. Hope you spineless weasels have enough spine left to face down the rest of the country. We're coming! You all ought to be taken out to the nearest stable and horse whipped
HO!HO!HO!

Maybe they'll ban Christmas outright. The ensuing brouhaha would be precious to watch.

Just a slight re-arrangement of the letters will provide the source.

But I must point out that the notion of Santa Claus is a clever ploy to get parents to lie to their children, while diverting attention from the birth of Christ.

Just a little FYI "for all you kids out there in TV Land." That "Indian Commission" in Montgomery County, Md. Is compprised totally of FIVE people. The commissions vote to protest Indian names was a majority vote. The committee is headed by David Regan (no relation to radio personality or ex-president.) This David Regan has been running his mouth about such tripe for over twenty years. It is only now that there are two Looney Tunes as "guv" and "2nd guv" that this moron has been given a voice. As to the smoking ordinance the Council members refuse to publicly say who voted for the anti-smoking reg. The Christmas tree lighting hit all of the local stations tonight and has been ridiculed by every person interviewed. But guess what will happen (Duh?) Whoville won't see Santa this year. Send replys to Paris Glendenning, Governor.

If I lived there I would arrange to have lawn parties at the houses of the Santa haters' adjacent neighbors. Everyone is invited as long as they wear a Santa suit and bring cigarettes.

Boycott.

If "Santa" is banned, I guess all the "Santas" out there should make sure not to do any shopping in local stores. They can spend their dollars in a more Santa-friendly environment.

Ho Ho Ho!

Ordinarily, I might agree with you on the smoking issue.
However, my husband has severe emphesyma and to hear you say he(or anyone)
is welcome to quit breathing was beyond kidding. We try to avoid situations that
make smokers uncomfortable, but there are times it is inevitable.
And I hope that in those times people are flexible.I have never run
into anyone who wasn't, yet.

I do think the town is out of line as far as cancelling Santa.

I apologize if I have offended anyone.

Dittos and you haven't. My Mother passed away this past January from tobacco-related cause - Emphesyma, COPD. I sure can empathize/sympathize with you, friend.

For years I tried to get her to quit smoking, and gave it up 20 years ago because I decided that my interjections were only causing a situation and not solving anything.

Last fall, when she clearly saw how it had severly deterioriated her quality of life (she DID finally quit a year before), she told me I wish I had quit a long time ago. What could I say? - I know, Mom. . .so do I was all I could say at the time. . .

Yes, I lie to my kids about Santa, just as I lied about the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, Jack Frost, Leprechauns (although there is a small door in Coleman's said to be used by the Leprechauns), and that all knowing, ever following Permanant Record! (not to be confused with a biometric National ID card). I also read them fairy tales with princes, princesses and witches, trolls and fairy godmothers.

It's not my fault. I am a victim! My parents lied to me! Generation after generation of lies, all lies. Finally, someone is ballsy enough to stop those lies. I am so relieved!..............NOT!

You need to get a life. Does anyone think God made a mistake when he gave us imagination and laughter? Don't think so.

Mayor: May I suggest that you stay away from the Christmas tree lighting.

The mayor was on the radio with Ron Smith (WBAL, Baltimore) today and she said most emphatically that it was not a Christmas tree - it's a Holiday Tree.

She also acknowledged receiving tons of e-mails, fax's and phone calls.

Ron told her that she should expect quite a few Santas to show up at the ceremony. And he recommended that any listeners who had access to a Santa suit should attend.

Forgot to add that some people get elected to a position of power, and all of a sudden they think that they have been elevated to the position of diety.

Have seen it happen.
