Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001P.C. Town Bans Santa Claus
Is something strange in the water in Montgomery County, Md.? This enclave of leftist thought police is notorious for censoring Indian nicknames of sports teams and trying to criminalize smoking in private homes. Now one of its towns has banned Santa Claus.
Kensington Mayor Lynn Raufaste says that a mere two families "felt that they would be uncomfortable" with Santa being part of the annual Christmas tree lighting. So the town council gave St. Nick the heave-ho-ho-ho.
These two families, who don't celebrate Christmas, say they feel excluded because - duh - Santa is synonymous with the holiday.
In years past, Santa would arrive on a fire truck and light the tree with the mayor. But on Sunday, the mayor will light the tree herself, something she calls "a shame," WJLA-TV reported today.
How come kooky, out-of-touch bureaucrats and politicians have no consideration for the majority who are "uncomfortable" with P.C. idiocy?
We know there are plenty of good, sensible people in Montgomery County, because some of them have written to us about the Berserkley-like nonsense going on there. It is time for the silent majority to contact their elected officials and roar.

Northern Virginia was built by people who felt uncomfortable around the kooks and whackos in Montgomery County Maryland.
You know Connie Morela is their Representative, and she fits right in over there.

Huh?? That doesn't even make any sense. Isn't the lighting of the tree synonymous with the holiday too?
To: billhilly
May I suggest that you stay away from the Christmas tree lighting. Someone has to have the good sense to put an end to these kinds of things. I am a neighbor across the river in Fairfax County, but it seems as though we are on different continents.
Hey! Long time no see!
Glad to see you have the good sense to tell these knuckleheads the way to handle this stuff! ;-)

exactly.

Wait! Isn't this the town that had to REVERSE it's smoking policy when they became a world-wide laughingstock? What do they think THIS is going to do, show how "sane" they are?

God gave us all a wonderful gift. It's called imagination. Now, you have every right to reject that gift and refuse to allow your children to enjoy the anticipation of dreaming about what Santa will leave under the tree and the fun of leaving him milk and cookies on Christmas Eve, but it is not only possible but very common for a child to believe in Santa Claus and Jesus Christ.
You really should consider making a distinction between playful imagination and serious core beliefs.

Just sent my thoughts to the mayor. Started with, "Yo, Mr. Grinch.."
Ended with, "..but I'm sure you'd vote for Hillary, given the chance."
What nipple heads.

If Santa has been banned, does this mean he can't deliver his presents to the children?

They got my opinion of their stupidity on that issue, too. So many idiots; so little time! I was with a group of people once who were smoking and the usual idiot started complaining. I told him he was welcome to quit breathing any time. Teehee!

LOL...May Santa come down your chimney !!

Ordinarily, I might agree with you on the smoking issue.
However, my husband has severe emphesyma and to hear you say he(or anyone)
is welcome to quit breathing was beyond kidding. We try to avoid situations that
make smokers uncomfortable, but there are times it is inevitable.
And I hope that in those times people are flexible.I have never run
into anyone who wasn't, yet.
I do think the town is out of line as far as cancelling Santa.
I apologize if I have offended anyone.

These two families felt "uncomfortable" with having Santa at a public event yet they don't feel uncomfortable about alienating themselves from the entire town with their unpopular opinion?
/strong sarcasm
Funny stuff.

Hi, old buddy. I sent this message to the Mayor today.
"Mayor: May I suggest that you stay away from the Christmas tree lighting. Someone has to have the good sense to put an end to these kinds of things. I am a neighbor across the river in Fairfax County, but it seems as though we are on different continents." LOL! After reading your letter to them I realized that my letters to bozos like this must be the ones the recipients invariably describe to the press like "and some letters were extremely abusive and filled with profanity or references to body parts that I can't metion".

What if they changed his name to "Sandy Claus the Winter Holiday Person", could they include him then?
Remove the beard and make him/her wear lipstick so he/she has no discernable gender. If his/her face was not quite dark enough to be black and not quite light enough to be white I am sure he/she, could, with just a little imagination pass as just about anyone. Since he/she is the "Winter Holiday Person" he/she would show no favouritism or bias toward any particular race, creed, religion or sex(ual orientation). He could hand out toys; but not war toys, candy, but nothing containing chocolate that might offend Moslems during Ramadan.
He could have elves, but they would have to be of average height so as not to be seen as exploiting or making light of the vertically challenged. Replace the reindeer with an environmentally friendly electric/ natural gas hybrid engine and even the greens could feel welcome to celebrate whatever holiday it is they celebrate at this time of year. There it is a Santa/Sandy we can all call our own.
