I accidentally permanently deleted a folder from Outlook Express - any chance of getting it back?
Posted on 11/25/2001 3:24:32 PM PST by my_pointy_head_is_sharp
I've been busy all day, transfering emails into folders, that way I won't be a target for the PE_MAGISTR.8 virus again (the one that takes random stuff from your computer & sends it to random people). It sends stuff to anyone in your email folders (Inbox, Sent, Drafts, etc.)
I accidentally deleted an entire folder in Outlook Express, one that still had lots of emails in it. It's deleted from the Deleted folder, too. (I don't know how I did it, but I did.) And there's nothing in my Recycle bin. Any chance I can retrieve it?

Norton Utilities will make your Windows computer work much, much better. You can remove a lot of conflicts in the registry with WinDoctor (in Norton Utilities), clean up un-needed files with the SpaceWizard, fix memory conflicts with Disk Doctor, and USE THE UNERASE WIZARD.
I have used System Restore in Windows ME to roll back settings. I don't know if your erased folder will re-appear with System Restore. However, keep it in mind if you fix your computer so well that many things will no longer work. I have used it successfully several times after new programs and new utilities have messed up the computer.

I don't use Outlook Express. I use infinitely superior methods of email. It is called Eudora for my home box.

I'm no Outlook guru. I don't think I can help. Sorry....

You're screwed. Do you back up your system? Only hope is to restore from a backup and you'll loose everything from that time until present.

I've used a program called
Directory Snoop to undelete stuff in Outlook Express for my aunt. Its shareware, but you get a free trial.

Yeah, for any Windows OS, I'd use Eudora instead of any version of Outlook.

Wrongo bongo..What version first of all...then second of all....deleted files from Outlook Express don't go to the Wastebasket.....
They just get deleted...I am almost certain too, that they aren't in the DELETED folder either...I have deleted calendars, but i can't remember if I was able to retrieve them from the Deleted folder.
If i was on my work computer I'd be able to give a definitive answer...but I don't have Outlook on this puter.
I don't know about those programs you can buy to recover deleted folders.

Well, you got some useful advice with the usual static... the best site I've found for computer questions is
virtualdr.com
just cut & paste to go there; you have to register, no big deal, like here, then you can ask questions in their forum.

You can set rules and create folders to send your mail to within Outlook.
I have various folders,,,and set a rule...for instance, when I get FYI mail..I have it automatically sent to my FYI folder, then read and delete them at my leisure..
