November 24, 2001 -- Is Harry Potter the spawn of Satan?
That's the opinion at one Christian school in southern Australia, where parents voted yesterday to forbid students from reading about the bespectacled wizard and his preteen cohorts.
The vote was just part of a widespread anti-Harry backlash by religious conservatives angered by the best-selling books' blatant celebration of witchcraft and the occult.

You can suggest anything you want -- that doesn't make it so. Which, I believe, is my point to begin with as I think your suggestion is "fictious." *g*
As to how children interpret literature, we will have to agree to disagree. I know the considerable experience I have in that area, so forgive me if I trust my judgement more than an online stranger's.
And I am comfortable with your decision to read it..free country you know..just do not say that God thinks it is OK..cause His word says otherwise..
I know this may come as a total shock to you, RnMomof7, but you do not speak for God and your reading of scripture is not infallible. I have never presumed to tell anyone else what God said on the subject. You, alas, would have difficulty making the same claim.
And so we end the night with the "loving" compassionate" Christains twisting my words..and telling me my problem is I rely too much on the word of God..
Vets,it is not pleasant but most people will not go to heaven (that is in the bible). We need to let people know that religious practices or giving to the poor will not save anyone...salvation is only through the blood of Jesus Christ..and unless we repent and are born again we are lost..
I am blunt..not because I do not love,but because I do..
Spin this your way...I believe it is very clear..
God hates witchcraft!
Careful, careful. :o)
One of the most misused words is "fundamentalist." It simply means those us of who believe in certain fundamental principles of Christianity. Not all fundamentalists oppose HP.
However, your point on making HP more attractive by the exuberance of the protests is well made.
I do not take well to those on FR who use their religion as an excuse to hide behind their hate, and I will not tolerate the discrimination or condemnation of people because your God said so.
I can just see God wincing at what you do in his name. What is wrong with praying for the dead? I suppose you don't believe in purgatory, that's probably some satanic Catholic belief that you, omnipotent queen of christianity have long since condemned.
A bit judgemental are you not?......interesting that you remembered the Catholic escape hatch..those years of catholic school were not wasted..
I understand what you said, and correct me if I'm wrong... but it sounds to me like you let the words of a few Christians (that you felt were lies) drive you away from your faith altogether. Don't let some folks who you disagreed with turn you away from having a relationship with God, and learning His word.
(Sad but true) - sometimes Christians say things that might turn people off to Christianity.... Keep in mind that no one is perfect and good -- except for God! If you have doubts about the Bible, read the book, 'The Case for Christ' by Lee Strobel.
I hope you're still interested in seeking the truth, and I hope you come to accept Christ. John 14:6 sums it up!
ps- you'll be in my prayers!
ROFLMBO
If this isn't the pot calling the kettle black, I don't know what is. There are none so blind...
Guess what ? In the NT, it says ( and I am paraphrashing here ) that the DEVIL knows the scriptures better than anyone, and glibly quotes it, to refute any argument. See any pattern here ?
Unlike you, I don't wear my religion on my sleeve, nor shout to the rooftops, just how wise I am, and how no one else understands what GOD's words mean. Sanctimonious hypocrites may delude themselves, until the cows come; however, when a hypocrite has seen " THE WIZARD OF OZ " and finds no magic, wizadry, or sin in it, but claims that it is in the HP movie ( WITHOUT EVER SEEING IT ! ) , then NONE of her malicious posts are wort a warm bucket of spit; especially when they are filled with cherrypicked scriptures and invectives.
May GOD have mercy, when YOU are judged.
Death is the last taboo of modern American. It was not always lke that. The " darkness ", which is going to creep into the 5th HP book, is death. If you havent talked about this with your children, and I do NOT mean that dead people will go to Heaven i they are " good ", it is likely that something about death, presented in an open manner, can help a parent and child brouch the subject more easily. They know that what's in a fiction book isn't real, but death in the real world DOES need to be talked about.
Gory movies and stories aren't for all. Harry Potter isn't all that " gory " when compared to 9/11/01, most movies and T.V. shows , ad many oher books that I can name. Shielding children from EVERYTHING, is not only an impossible, Herculeian chore, but also a detriment to children. No, I am NOT sayiNg that kids should watch porn and " snuff " movies, nor the butchery in movies like " BONNIE & CLYDE". Please use som common sense, should you decide to reply to this and don't assume what I mean.
Hmmm I wonder if the cost of the Video covers just the production or will there be something left over to make Tim Lahayes Charismas go ching ching ching with the merry sound of cash tills.

Get a soapbox.
