Death is the last taboo of modern American. It was not always lke that. The " darkness ", which is going to creep into the 5th HP book, is death. If you havent talked about this with your children, and I do NOT mean that dead people will go to Heaven i they are " good ", it is likely that something about death, presented in an open manner, can help a parent and child brouch the subject more easily. They know that what's in a fiction book isn't real, but death in the real world DOES need to be talked about.
Gory movies and stories aren't for all. Harry Potter isn't all that " gory " when compared to 9/11/01, most movies and T.V. shows , ad many oher books that I can name. Shielding children from EVERYTHING, is not only an impossible, Herculeian chore, but also a detriment to children. No, I am NOT sayiNg that kids should watch porn and " snuff " movies, nor the butchery in movies like " BONNIE & CLYDE". Please use som common sense, should you decide to reply to this and don't assume what I mean.
My husband and I have carefully considered what "we" consider appropriate for "our" children, and it is based on "our" understanding our scripture and "our" values. We have no problem with fantasy; I do have a problem with little kids playing at witches who also celebrate Christmas and Easter. The distinction between make believe and the real world was not drawn clearly enough for my family. I also believe some of the passages are quite disgusting.
And last I noticed, the purpose of this message board was to share ideas. I'm glad you don't care what my family reads; however, your cavalier dismissal of my message insinuates that I just as soon have not written anything at all. If you don't want to read opposing ideas, I suggest you stay off the HP threads. Have a very good day.
