Early Outspoken Opponents of Abortion - all women
Susan B Anthony Web Site ^

Posted on 11/23/2001 9:19:59 PM PST by AgThorn

The namesake of the Susan B. Anthony List was an outspoken opponent of abortion, referring to it as "child murder." Anthony's colleagues were united with her in this position.

"Guilty? Yes. No matter what the motive, love of ease, or a desire to save from suffering the unborn innocent, the woman is awfully guilty who commits the deed. It will burden her conscience in life, it will burden her soul in death; but oh, thrice guilty is he who...drove her to the desperation which impelled her to the crime!" -The Revolution, 1869
Susan B. Anthony
"When we consider that women are treated as property, it is degrading to women that we should treat our children as property to be disposed of as we see fit." - Elizabeth Cady Stanton in a letter to Julia Ward Howe, October 16, 1873. Recorded in Howe's diary at Harvard University Library.
  Elizabeth Cady Stanton
"Abortion is the ultimate exploitation of women."
-Alice Paul is the author of the original Equal Rights Amendment (1923)
Alice Paul
"Every woman knows that if she were free, she would never think of murdering a child before its birth." -Victoria Woodhull was America's first female presidential candidate. Wheeling, West Virginia Evening Standard November 17, 1875
  Victoria Woodhull

Since Roe V. Wade, there have been 28 million
abortions in this country.

This is an atrocity. We believe a crucial part to ending abortion is to have women speaking out AGAINST abortion. The media and the pro-abortion lobby have created the perception that ALL women are "pro-choice," and that abortion is a "Women's Issue." This is ridiculous.

Poll after poll shows that women are more pro-life than "pro-choice."

Illegal or "Stricter Limits"
for all age groups
Illegal or "Stricter Limits"
for 18-29 year old women
January 1998 Nationwide New York Times/CBS News Poll
— 63% of women felt abortion should be illegal or available only under "stricter limits." Of 18-29 year old women, the percentage was 70%.

Illegal in all cases or with "stricter limits"
Legal at any time
Legal in 1st Trimester
Legal in 2nd trimester
Undecided
Bacelice & Associates June 1998— 54% of women felt abortion should be illegal in ALL cases or only allowed for rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother. Women who felt abortion should be legal at any time 10%, legal in the 1st Trimester 25%, legal in the 2nd Trimester 5%.

Gallup 1998 - 23% of women say abortion should be
legal in all circumstances. (Down from 36% in 1995)

We all know women are uniquely connected to this issue. The pro-abortion forces have used this to their advantage. We must counter their efforts and have women in public office who will stand up on the floors of the House and Senate and say enough is enough, women want abortion stopped.

Currently there are 72 women in Congress and only 7 of these women are pro-life, that is less than 10%! When bills come before Congress to restrict abortions, radical pro-abortion Congresswomen and Senators dominate the debate. This is just not acceptable. We are determined to change this.

In addition, we need women to act as a grassroots lobbying force and as messengers contacting Congress and state legislatures.

When a woman speaks out against abortion, her voice is listened to — she can make a great difference.

PERSONALLY, I think that a MAN should not screw any woman who he hasn't talked about keeping and raising babies together for the rest of their lives together. Maybe this is 'mens' fault. Yup...I do believe that is the case.

Do you really believe that it's 'men's' fault? We as woman have to take some blame and responsibility in the choices we've made. We're not always the victim. Some choices just make us appear that way. The woman still has the final say.

Trust me, the point being made here is not lost on me. It is good to know that the mothers of feminism were against abortion. However, I've never been a fan of feminists of any ilk. I do not consider women who want equal pay for equal work or want to be treated as human beings necesarily "feminists". I just don't subscribe to the "men have always oppressed women" school of thought.

So are you promoting now castration? What did women do before ROE V Wade? I still do not see rape and incest as reasons for continuing legalized abortions for the sake of convenience. The number of abortions per day/year is not due to rape and incest.

"What about the poor woman, whose baby has died in the womb... . If that child is removed, do you consider it an abortion ? "

Of course not. However, the deceased fetus of a moneyed woman is an entirely different matter.

Are you crazy? We are pro-LIFE,not pro-DEATH by sepsis!!

We have housed over 20 animals that would have been homeless including a skunk, a rabbit, mice, a bird and many cats and dogs. Also we have found homes for and given refuge to mother cats and their kittens and lost dogs. We take joy in feeding the wild squirrels and birds. We love, love, love animals and are completely prolife. We also have helped single moms and helped support children who needed help. Not said at all with the intent on blowing our horns but to show that we are prolife with huge amounts of love for babies and their moms and also have a heart for animals of many kinds. God loves people but he cares about the sparrow. ...the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts through the Holy Spirit, which is given unto us (Romans 5:5).

BRAVO for you, Bellflower! We never had a skunk but we did nurse a whole litter of rabbits and assorted wild critters as well - including two baby squirrels which I had to feed with a bottle 'round the clock!

Hey, he wants pro-life? I'll give him pro-life! Nobody more soft-hearted than conservatives, eh? ...Whoever cares for the least of these....

God bless you!

I`m not looking for a fight AgThorn, but I`ll put on the old asbestos undies just in case. You said that there are about 1.3 million abortions performed in America every year. From what I found here it seems that there are significantly less people/families wanting to adopt babies than there are women having abortions.

I am not looking for arguments to justify abortion, I am genuinely interested to know what happens to all the extra babies that no-one will want. Any thoughts?

Now wouldn't that be a nice problem to have. I mean, the supply of babies has never exceeded the demand for them in this country. So, hence the hypothetical question, what if we just quit having abortions and then we had this problem?

It's a good question, and I only wish we could trade one problem for the other!! One has to admit that in many other countries, this problem literally does exist. That is partly why so many foreign nursery's and orphanages do such a good business over here. i.e. we are either killing off our own, or making the bureaucracy so difficult to adopt ... so we adopt theirs ... sad.

“It had nothing to do with humanity, it couldn't have; it was a mass...”

---a reference to the Holocaust by Franz Stangl, Nazi commandant of extermination camps in Sobibor (March, 1942 -September, 1942) and Treblinka (September, 1942 - August, 1943).

"Well we all know that one isn't true. Women ARE free, and they still think nothing of murdering unborn children. I don't much care for the bit from Susan B blaming men more than women for abortion.. It's time many women started taking responsibility for their own sins.. I've listened to a lot of women in prison who blame their incarceration almost solely on the influence of some man."

100% true.
