MINEOLA, N.Y., Nov 23, 2001 (AP Online via COMTEX) -- Pollio Italian Cheese Company announced a recall of certain Polly-O ricotta cheese packages and some food service ricotta products because of potential contamination from Salmonella bacteria. Pollio said the Department of Defense contacted the company and the New York Department of Agriculture and Markets when a sample of cheese tested positive for the bacteria. The recalled cheese, in 15 oz. and 3 lb. sizes, had the code date DEC-10 and was distributed through retail grocery stores and food service distributors. The recall also applies to 3 lb. foodservice products with the code date DEC-10 PD1. The states involved are Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the products to date.

I usually make lasagna as an extra dish for Thanksgiving, this is the first year that I didn't and I'm glad. Live in NY and buy Polly-O

Sounds like you're lampooning the credits from that Monty Python movie. ROFLMAO!
On a more serious note, my 4-year-old daughter loves Polly-O string cheese, so I'm grateful that someone would think to post this type of warning!
To: kattracks
This certainly wouldn't happen to any Canadian cheese, that's for sure.

Please forgive my stupid question - but what is it with freepers and mooses and cheese?
To: everclear
I think a rich mousse goes well with any cheese, unless it is styling mousse.
A cheese recall, eh? Gouda for them!

Please forgive my stupid question - but what is it with freepers and mooses and cheese? Seeing how is it only Friday, and we have the whole weekend to straighten this out, you might want to consider starting your own thread with that question.

Hey, what isn't it with Freepers, mooses and cheese.
To: PoorMuttly
Ah, yes, Sal Monella! You must have known him before he died, yes?

BUMP before this cheese thread becomes a stale cheese thread (bleu cheese thread?)

No wonder he didn't return my switchblade.
