I dubbed this one "RapeTV" when it came out years ago...every third show involved a rape. Never watch it anymore...never watch anything. I actually had to go and find a place to plug my TV in on 9-11 to see what was happening.

Lifetime isn't as bad as Oxygen. Oxygen's only saving grace is that it is the only place to watch Xena.

In my opinion, the Lifetime channel (and others like it) make all women the victims. The men, corporations, business, etc. are the villans, while the women are helpless and its never their fault. I stopped watching these channels along time ago.

I am of the opinion that when presented with such distortions and generalizations on a regular basis, even the most steadfast among us may begin to be affected by such garbage.

Star, I think you may be experiencing the third person effect. That is, a tendency to think that others are more influenced by media than you are. We all like to think we're above average, and that only that vast empty-headed populace out their will succumb to the propaganda. But, people tend to gravitate to information and entertainment that they already agree with. So sure, some people will be influenced, those who haven't formed any opinions or taken a strong stand against this nonsense. But that's not likely to be the steadfast conservative. I hope this explanation relieves some of your concerns.

The History Channel..ugh! How many times have you all sat down to what you thought would be a 'serious' discussion of U.S. history, the Constitution, etc., only to be confronted by sheeple who quote THC or PBS as sources?

Although I must say that the dreadful "The Crossing" (A&E?) which purported to tell the story of Washington crossing the Delaware at least prompted some interest in the Revolutionary War by some who would have never otherwise given it a second thought.

I have the perfect antidote to Lifetime: The Outdoor Channel. Nothing but hunting, fishing and gold prospecting (!) 24 hours a day!! Tell your wife that every hour she watches Lifetime, you get to watch TOC. She'll never turn it on again!

I generally don't watch the channel, but agree with the assessment. What I really can't stand is women watching Oprah and Rosie. As soon as someone I'm talking to says they saw this or that on Oprah or Rosie, I kind of recoil and say "oh, you watch that stuff?". The other day at work we were discussing books and I told a co-worker that if a book goes on Oprah's list, it is off mine and he couldn't believe it! Then at a friend's house I saw a copy of 'O' (Oprah) magazine decoratively laid out in her bathroom. I was horrified! It was worse than if I'd found genital wart cream in her medicine cabinet! (not that I would look!)

I have to admit that I do watch re-runs of Unsolved Mysteries at 11 am. Sometimes I watch Designing Women, too. I feel that the evil of the FOB's who produced the show is balanced out by the good of fine conservative co-stars Dixie Carter and Delta Burke (who is married to Major Dad Gerald McRaine). I have been torn lately since they have started running Cheers reruns on Nick at Night, now.

I really need to get a hobby.

Should I say this? My husband says it's "The Kick the Men in the B..... channel". So he goes and watches some awful man's channel with a lot of westerns just to irritate me. I love him anyway.

I would have to say that I agree since I am typing this and watching what looks like a good movie on Lifetime right now. They do have a tendancy to show men in our most primal state!! I think women like that! Tin foil hat on:)

There seems to be a hierarchy in TV advertising, too. Notice the only person who can out-do or out-think or out-cool a black man is a white woman. Black women trump all in terms of knowing the right product. White guys are nerds, silly, off-beat, gay, or fumferrers, if they're not violent, evil, abusive, drunk, or stoned.

I share other posters' dislike for "women-good, men-evil and stupid" programming, but in fairness must point out that this summer I saw Lifetime broadcast a movie about the seige at Ruby Ridge that was sympathetic to the Weavers. As far as I could tell, it was factually based and didn't shy away from the Weavers' white-separatist views either. I couldn't believe I was seeing it on Lifetime!
