Are you eccentric?

Not long ago, my boss's boss joined a decent-sized crowd of people who deem me eccentric. I'd like to know why other FReepers are considered idiosyncratic (if you don't mind sharing).

Who me?

It all started in first grade, first day, after the tears were dried, mostly . . .

The task was to color the bunny. The teacher said that she didn't care what WAY we colored the bunny but that once we started, to color the whole bunny the same way.

I did. She was FURIOUS.

Sure enough, my bunny with the others posted around the top of the room was the only one with black curly-cues all over it's body.

She had MEANT to color back and forth the same direction all over the bunny. She had not said that!

Throughout school, complex English, philosophical etc. stuff was easy and quick for me. Simple things were sometimes mystifying.

In a brainstorming situation, other group members may offer 1-3 ideas. . . it's common for me to offer 8-12 or 20 or so.

I seem to not think like, feel like, do like most other people.

I gave up trying to be conventional long ago. . . just made matters worse.

I was a little stunned at the end of my PhD program. It was a class of more than 30 at a very high powered, intense professional school set up by the State Psychological Assoc using a lot of retired internationally famous Shrinks as faculty. We had to do practicum and research at the same time we did coursework. Many of my classmates had been very innovative heads of their own counseling centers before coming into the program. Many were very original artists of one sort or another in addition to being innovative therapists.

At the end of the program, I was tagged for the Who's Who volume for that population and in commenting on such, my classmates noted that they all thought I was the most unique/strangest of all of them.

I used to complain to God about it. He eventually seemed to get annoyed at such and emphatically let me know that HE HAD MADE ME AS HE'D MADE ME FOR HIS PURPOSES and that I should learn to enjoy it. That I'd told Him He could spend me any way He chose so shut-up with the complaining and get on with the program etc. Things have gone better trying to obey that.

But sometimes, close friends still have to translate what I think are simple statements to the rest of the group I'm in. Interestingly, many Chinese understand me easier and quicker than many Americans. Not sure why.

Thank you Meekie.
You're welcomed. (I hope he does too!) Happy Thanksgiving, Snow Bunny! ! !

As the nation entered the Thanksgiving holiday, Bush arrived to express his gratitude to troops at home and abroad in a speech to more than 10,000 soldiers. Either you're eccentric, or you're dull. No middle ground.

Yep. Just had the floors sanded and varnished and I don't want any germs from outside (or even bare feet prints) on those floors.

"If you are rich, you are eccentric. If not, you're crazy."

Absolutely true!

I'm poor so I guess I'm just crazy. I hope to be eccentric someday.

Actually I'm agoraphobic so I am tossed in the mentally ill pile.
