"See how much support would you get"
There are now 30 Representatives and Senators (including mine) who would vote for secession in the SC Legislature. And I hope that you would support it too since northerns still hold the South in disdain.
IMO, secession appears to be a natural political move for both the north and the South. Line up the issues, the South is noticeably more conservative and rightwing than the north.
You guys up north love your gays, abortion, big government, unions, high taxes, gun contol, etc. Now why would you want to be associated with those who don't love the things you do? Just think of the enormous strides in moving a 'progressive' society 'forward' if you weren't emcumbered by Southern values?

I think it's apples and oranges and that there is no comparison between the two. Look at things through the eyes of 1860 instead of today. The activities of the Nazi's would have been as repulsive then as they were in 1940. Mass murder is mass murder. But slavery as an institution was was not against the law in the U.S. The south rebelled in defense of an unfair but entirely legal institution. The north responded to the rebellion, not the outlaw slavery.

I have a written source for this out of Columbia, SC. I will try to contact the author and get his source with more specifics.

There are now 30 Representatives and Senators (including mine) who would vote for secession in the SC Legislature. Assuming that your figure is correct that means 17.6% of the legislature supports secession. Is that enough to take the state into rebellion again? Have any polls been done to determine what percentage of the population supports secession? If you decided to pull an 1860 again would you put it to a popular refendum this time or would you just take it out of the Union without public input again? If you did hold a referendum what percentage would be enough to secede? Would a simple majority be enough to secede? A super majority? Less than half?

"Is this why you went on a three-thread tough-talking rampage against me? LOL You've said it on many a thread of yore. Did you change your mind and become a Christian?"How about a direct quote instead of a blatant lie.

RE: Post #104
Are you a northerner? If so, what's it to ya?
To: CWRWinger
I'm an American with a vested interest in my country, part of which is South Carolina. But assume for a moment that I am a South Carolinian. How much say in my future will I have?

"..assume for a moment that I am a South Carolinian."
Hypothetical barf.
If you were a natural born SC'er or an 'I'm too lazy to shovel snow' norhterner?
I have to go to work. I'll catch any replies later.

So in other words you either haven't thought that far ahead or have no concern for the majority of the people.
I spent nine years off and on in South Carolina. What does that make me?

I guess that I would use the analogy of a Linus and his security blanket. It meant nothing at all to Charlie Brown. It offended his sister Lucy no end. But it was a comfort to Linus. If all the southerners want to cling to the flag and create some romantic fantasy of what the confederate states would be like right now then I don't honestly care. I don't subscribe to it and when their fantasy spills over into denying reality then I'll try to correct them. But all in all I'm not offended by their clinging to the flag at all.

nope. just truthful.

FEW if anyone in the CSA's military OR the civilian population knew/cared what a FEW landed aristocrats thought or wrote, just as almost NOBODY reads political platforms of ANY political party. sorry, what was printed in any of the ordinances of sucession is of little historical import. what was approved by the conventions could have been "mary had a little lamb" and it would have meant exactly the same thing = we southrons wanted OUT from under the heel of the damnyankee boot.
