We are all tickled at the new FreeRepublic "Pager" window, JohnRob's software feature which notifies you whenever someone flags you (pings you) to a thread, or sends you new FReepmail.
Here is the thread outlining this feature: +++ Free Republic "Pager" Window Notifies You when you get Replies and Mail +++.
Since we need fresh FReeper lexicography (when was the last time anyone added to it?) and common terms for such features; and since FR "Pager" Window doesn't have much of a "ring" to it; and since the word "ping" is already in the FReeper lexicon, allow me to suggest a new word for the window:
Ping Box
...the FReeper term for this cute li'l window (or is it "l'il"?).
-------------------------
Further, the sound your computer makes -- the little "ding" noise -- alerting you that your ping box has a new message... well, that sound could be called a:
Ping Ding
-------------------------
People who abuse the Ping Box feature, who send you replies and mail with no content simply for the sake of pinging you, could be called:
Ping Bats
-------------------------
A steady volley of "ping dings" between actively conversing FReepers could be called (you guessed it):
Ping Pong
-------------------------
When someone sends you a notice of an impending FReep or other event in your city, this could be known as a:
FReep Ping
-------------------------
When you post something so ridiculous and embarrasing that everyone starts flaming you, and you start ducking whenever you get pinged, this is known as:
Flaming Ping Duck. (At lunchtime this is served as an entree, or a combination meal with a No. 14, a No. 7, a No. 9 and lychees. $10 minimum.)
-------------------------
This is the point at which the terminology stops being clever and starts sounding rather stupid. If you can think of any other terms that would be both clever and useful, and wish to share them, no one is:
Stop Ping you.
Just Ping,
(Silly)
Kee Ping
it?
As in, She was schlep Ping shop Ping bags filled with Pop Ping corn while hubby was home ta Ping the Ping Pong Tournament. : )
Ho Ping
they are popular enough for the lexicon.
Nighty-night!
JohnRob posted it on one of his threads when he was introducing the new forum software.
"And if you should make love to a person at a Sno-Kone stand, you could get slurpies...and kissing your canary can cause you a bad spell of chirpies!"
