Just click on that, and one should pop up.

Save this URL as a bookmark (in your Internet Explorer) named "Free Republic," and you should be able to start up the "pager" window every time you log on to FR.

JohnRob created this (I think) in order to save system resources, with this "pager" you don't need to use the full "self-search" feature anymore.

Whenever you post a reply to someone, or put their name in the "To:" box, it's considered a "Ping."

Think of it as "whenever I make someone's FR pager beep, it's a ping"

Thought it was mor complicated than that..as in pinging a web site for round trip timing etc..

When you play a video game on the Internet, your "ping" is the amount of time, in milliseconds, it takes for you to send a packet of information to the server, and then for that packet to be sent back to you.

In FR's case, it just means you post a reply that appears on their self-search, and gets their attention.
