Has anyone noticed that the Liberal influence has spread here into Free Republic. I notice that less and less Conservatives seem to post here, and more and more Libertarians seem to be.
I get a letter from someone named NYpeanut who is mad because I posted a discussion based on the Gender Gap in voting.
I didn't make it up, there is really a huge Gender gap with Female Voters tending toward the more liberal candidate. The discussion went well without name calling, but this person seems to have taken issue to the fact that I pointed out women seem to vote more liberally than men.
All those who are newbies here are considered disruptors, and those who hold a more right-winged view than the average libertarian seem to be kicked out.
Why is this? Is this a Libertarian site now?
I have noticed more and more posters standing up for Abortion, Homosexuality, the Porn Industry and Drugs since I first came to this site back before the 2000 Election.
Are Christian Conservatives(Who make up a large part of the Republican core vote) not allowed here anymore?
Just because one holds to a higher power, and wishes to shape society in accordance with the laws of Almighty God, does not make one a Taliban Milita member.
A Born Again Christian who supports a Pro-Abortion candidate - no way...never happen!
Let's see if I can guess your motivation:
1. You want to be able to take illegal drugs.
2. You think that the Federal Government is too overreaching and abusive in the war on drugs and so drugs should be legalized.
3. You think that too much crime is caused by illegal drugs.
Which one? 1, 2, 3 or all of the above?
First of all, the "hard drinking" rebels that founded the country called themselves "liberals." Even the fundies amongst them, like Patrick Henry were not "conservatives" of the time. The "liberal" fundies and rationalists that founded our nation embraced the radically "liberal" notion at the time of toleration of all religions--fundie and otherwise.
The conservatives at the time of the founding were loyal to old political ideas of the time like monarchy and a state church.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the meanings of the political terms "liberal" and "conservative" reversed themselves with regard to fundie-religion. The hard drinking "conservatives" like Mencken opposed the "liberal" church lady prohibitionist reformers.
Sometime during World War II, the next group of Americans to call themselves "conservatives" re-adopted fundie religion, empire, and declared war on communism.
The last good Americans to call themselves liberals were around at the time of the founding and the last good Americans to call themselves "conservatives" were around at the turn of the century. Hence, the terms "classical liberal" and "paleo-conservative.""
excuse me. when life begins is a legitimate question that people have. i used the bible as a reference to support my beliefs. abortionists can rarely quote a source to support their beliefs. i interpret this to mean that they believe abortion is a convenience.
our founding fathers referred to the bible often to help them govern. if we as a people would do the same today, we would find that we would have less government interfering with our lives.

The issue isn't what labels we put on people, but what they believe. John F. Kennedy would be a conservative by todays standards. The founding fathers would be homophobic, extreme right wing nuts on the FBI's terrorist list.
It's not me...
The three I agree who were not religious (publically they were but privately were not) are Jefferson, Franklin and Paine. Washington was certainly quite devout and contrary to popular custom very private about it. Some have interpreted this to mean something else based on their agenda. I disagree with your take on Washington.
Presbyterians, Episcopalian, Methodists, Baptists, Quakers were well-represented. When I said fundamentalist I meant that those same denominations relative to today's respective denominations. Obviously I know that evangelism and the charismatics came much much later. I'm talking about the Biblical view. The first three have moved doctrinally considerably. I doubt one would recognize the differences of a Methodist sermon in 1776 from a fundamentalist sermon today.
They weren't anti-religion as many of the leaders of the French Revolution were but they weren't particularly religious either. Actually the only two Presidents of the 20th century that could be labeled Fundamentalist would be Woodrow Wilson and Jimmy Carter.
Oh sure Carter was charismatic fundamentalist in the modern sense. I don't know much about Wilson. The founders were largely anti-Anglican and anti-Catholic for some obvious reasons, and not at all anti-religion. Though I believe there was 1 or 2 Catholic founders. Most all the States had Protestant religious requirements for elective office. Most all the states had sodomy, adultery, and pornography laws. Most all the states had laws respecting the Sabbath. Methinks we pay much to much attention to the Federal government our founders created which was far removed from the people, rather than those state and local governments that were closer and actually governed the people.
of course not (i know you knew this). the founding fathers had a faith in god that undergirded their beliefs on freedom. because 250 years ago the vast majority of people believed in god, their freedom was 'guided' by god's laws.
we as a nation have become apostate. we therefore need more man made laws because we no longer feel the need to be guided by god.
our founding fathers did not believe in anarchy or a system of uncontrolled freedom.
with freedom comes responsibility.
Welcome back cotter. - Or mojo, navi, cynical, imbe, etc, etc.
Ever heard of President Jimmy Carter? He voted for Clinton twice.
So sex between adults and animals is okay. Prostitution is okay...and hey...wait a minute. Moderation??? How DARE you infringe the rights of the people to indugle in their favorite vices however they see fit. If someone wants to pork (so to speak) their sheep 24x7 it's right as an American!
Moderation Nazi!!
Also you do realize that kiddy porn purveyors are attempting to change the age of sexual consent? It's really the last barrier to full, no holds barred Sodom and Gommorah stuff. You know, the city where they would screw angels because I guess it was their patriotic duty and their rights as citizens.
LOL! That wouldn't be any fun though!
i know. i am having a hard time understanding if libertarians are undergirded by god's law. perhaps you can enlighten me.
thanks
