MANILA (Reuters) - One man was killed and another wounded when a brawl broke out in a Philippine karaoke bar over the quality of singing, a local newspaper reported on Monday.
A 54-year-old laborer died of a stab wound in a bar in northern Manila early on Sunday after a fight which began when a group of drinkers said the man with the microphone was singing out of tune, according to the Philippine Star.
The singer confronted the group and a fight ensued, according to the report. The dead man had been trying to put an end to the fight when he was stabbed in the chest, it added.
A 24-year-old garment worker is being treated in hospital for stab wounds, the report said.
Recent newspaper reports have said Philippine karaoke parlors have been removing the Frank Sinatra classic "My Way" from playlists because fights frequently broke out when the song was being sung.
Monday's report did not indicate which song was playing when the fight began.

Let me guess, he was "singing" either "The Pina Colada Song", "Afternoon Delight" or "The Macarena". And HE DESERVED TO DIE!

Fess up time. Ever sing at a Karaoke "establishment"? I've done worse. I've filked at Science fiction cons. Though to my credit, it's often been my own material and it's usually been something close to in tune.

Routinely happens at the barrio Feista when I was a kid. One year it was a nursing mother stabbed. To much white lightning mixed with coconut wine.

Stone's Sympathy for the devil tends to have the same effect. I wonder what is is about a song that makes people go wild.

You probably encourage bagpiping, too.
To: Hank Rearden
Oooooooh, I love bagpipes. I think you and I could be the best of friends, Hank.

How can you tell if a bagpipe is out of tune?
Someone is blowing into it.

>Bet you he was a muslim, and he was killed not over 'bad singing' but over singing
Interesting theory. If so, then did that guy expect to find at a karaoke bar unless karaoke means lapdance in arabic?

A. She cant find her key and she doesnt know when to come in..

Garth Brooks.......'nuff said?

What a small world! This guy was blessed with the same singing ability I possess. Apparently we both sing like marble salesmen with a mouth full of samples.
I've been tossed out of a few places because of it but, IMHO, getting stabbed is a little harsh.

See what some choral lessons could do? Bad singing is a leading cause of death in the Phillipines. LOL!

How many country chick singers does it take to sing Crazy?
Apparently ALL of them.

Come on! A stabbing in a bar in Manila is "news"??? Hell, when I was there, it was barely "news" when someone would throw a grenade into a bar, or go berserk and kill 23 strangers with a parang!

I have successfully avoided Karaoke everytime I've been near it.
I have no problem singing on stage by myself or with the band, but there's just something inheirently hoky about singing Kareoke, its like the hoky poky...oakie doakie?
