Radio Free Europe reports that the London- based Al Zaman reported 11/16, Saddam Hussein held a meeting 11/14 with "his two sons" and top officials "to put into place the mechanism for Saddam's succession, particularly in the case of emergency."
Al Zaman "sources ruled out the possibility" of Hussein stepping down, but they said, "He is concerned about the posssibility he may be targeted in a military operation."
The sources say Hussein "has put in place a contingency plan" splitting Iraq's leadersip "between his two sons" and his deputy.

Didn't he have a number of his officials executed shortly before the Gulf War? I seem to recall he was holding a meeting or conference or something and as he rambled on, soldiers would take out certain people who were executed. The conference was on film and you could see the men being removed from the meeting to go meet their Maker.

In the Mideast in particular though, sons are a problem because the tyrants usually have quite a number of them.Reckon they'll ever see the connection between multiple wives and so many sons ready to topple them?

How long before one kills the other so that he has all the power?

Perhaps it wouldn't be as much "fun" . . . but one almost wonders if letting things take their course internally might result in some internal fighting such that we'd have fewer targets at the top. . . then slaying the next few levels of military cut-throats would be a lot easier in the resulting chaos.

Based upon my more than 50 visits to Iraq and inumerable conversations with my many Iraqi friends, [Most Iraqis are pretty decent people] I can confidently say that Soddom and his gang are Absolutely detested by all in Iraq except the relatively few, mostly Absolute morons, who comprise the brutal force that surrounds him and keeps him safe and in power -- and his [Very few surviving -- he has murdered most of them] fellow psychopathological-gangster smugglers and co-robbers of Iraq's Treasury.

I had never seen that video you're talking about until the A&E program the other night. It was so wierd, he was in grinning -- one man in the group was mopping the sweat off his brow, he was so afraid, and these names are being called, the police lead them out right then. I'm not sure when it was, he looked alot younger then. Could it have been right after he came to power? Early 80's?
