Bush to name DOJ hdqtrs after Kopechne - er, Marilyn Monroe - er, Robt Kennedy
roll call, via drudge ^ | Nov 16, 01 | drudge

Quoth Drudge:

President Bush plans to issue an executive order early next week naming the Justice Department after the late Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, according to sources familiar with the matter.

ROLL CALL Editor Ed Henry is first to break the controversial development.

The timing of the bipartisan gesture, which is expected to occur Tuesday, could be tied to the war on terrorism. In recent weeks, current Attorney General John Ashcroft has said the war being waged by the Justice Department is very similar to the war against organized crime that Kennedy launched as attorney general in the 1960s.

"Kennedy, it is said, would arrest a mobster for spitting on the streets if it would help defeat organized crime," Ashcroft said in a recent speech. "In the war on terror, it is the policy of this Department of Justice to be equally aggressive."

Rep. Tim Roemer (D-Ind.) has introduced legislation in the last three Congresses pushing for the department to be named after Kennedy. While the bill has never picked up enough steam to be signed into law, the retiring Roemer has personally lobbied Bush twice in recent months to act on the matter. Impacting...

The Kennedy Department? The Kennedy Justice Department?

How about the Bush Central Intelligence Agency? Or the Clinton Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms? Or the Lockheed Department of Defense? Or the General Electric Department of Energy? How about "The Army Corps of Engineers, sponsored by Caterpillar"

This is getting ridiculous. Like taking away the names of the acutal funders and builders of sports venues, and giving them business company names.

Skakal wasn't a Kennedy. Ethyl Skakal married RFK.

I'm not saying Skakel was a Kennedy. HE said it himself.

"He said he once heard Skakel say he 'drove her skull in with a golf club' and that he could get away with murder 'because I'm a Kennedy.' Skakel is the nephew of Ethel Kennedy, the widow of Robert F. Kennedy. Kennedy cousin pleads not guilty to murder

President Bush naming the Justice Department after a famous and patriotic AG will result in losing 4-5 Senate seats? Some conservatives are simply too reactionary in their responses.

Allow me to engage in more "reactionary" responses.

The GOP will probably lose next year's elections because they have not stuck to their principles. History is my guide here. It happened to Bush in 1992, Dole in 1996, and the GOP Senate in 1998 and 2000. In each case, they failed to adhere to conservative principles and lost big time. Every time our guys try to appease the enemy, disaster is the result.

There is still time to recover, but I don't see it happening especially after their pathetic loss on the airport security bill.

I think that this is a pretty clear signal that we are about to see a LOT of recess appointments.

Cry me a river, Dashcle & Leahy.

Bobby Kennedy was not a partisan democrat and had a very good reputation for being a fair and honest AG. I have no problems with this.

Question to Ashcroft: Did the Taliban fix the election for Bush?

The justice sysem is Named already after the most wonderful people in the world,The "AMERICAN" Justice System. The Kennedy's have done enough damage to our country already.

What's next,Name the white House after JFK ,Call it the Whorehouse.

Name a couple of bridges after the Swimmer "TED",call them Chappaquiddick I,II III.

Robert is still living off the American People by leaving his spawn who all seem to be "EMPLOYED" by the Federal Govt.

Enough is Enough

You might think this thread is "rubbish" but you really need to go back to the 1960's history books. You could also read some of the books written about the death of Marilyn Monroe, the connections between the Mafia (Sam Giancana) and the fact that she was sleeping with Giancana and both John and Robert Kennedy, all at or near the same time.

In addition, BBC covered the story extensively during the 1980's, then ABC tried to cover it as well, but the program was pulled after Ethel Kennedy and others called their friends at ABC/Capital Cities.

Perhaps if there is any "rubbish" here, it is the Kennedy clan. No, I dare say they give rubbish a bad name.

Tommy, I don't want to get into a huge contest over who was the worst, Kennedy or Clinton. I my opinion it is Clinton because JFK never had a chance to do all the damage he was capable of. Robert, on the other hand has a record and most of it is good. Based on that and the fact that he was killed by a foreign agent and also was a veteran, I have no objection to naming a friggin hunk of concrete after him. NUFF SAID...............

I never compared Robert F. Kennedy to Clinton. I merely am stating facts that are historical. If you want to compare him to Clinton, that's your choice. And if you want to believe REVISIONIST HISTORY and think that RFK was a "good family man, a good Catholic, and a good Attorney General", then that's YOUR opinion. I prefer to accept the truth, which is that he was a dope-headed, womanizing murderer.

I should have said "He was a dope-headed, womanizing murderer, just like several other Kennedys."
