That's so the reporters can see who is going to throw them out the door without a parachute if they misbehave.

I've been telling my students for years that horsemanship is a martial art ...
I once had a retired member of the U.S. military laugh at me
for saying so in the presence of a member of the Irish Army show jumping team...
I told a friend in the DoD in Germany, back in September that they would need horses over there..
He said they'd use Bradley's... (I'm sure they will...but..)
Thanks for this pic...
I'm going to hang it in my tack room..
Just goes to show..sometimes you have to "get Medieval on their a$$es".. literally..
Leave it to our Special Forces to do whatever works and get the job done..
Ride easy, cowboys...bless you

You apologize for advertising your website and you advertise your website again! Sheesh.

I'm sure the animal rights activists will have Rumsfelds hide for letting these poor jackasses be submitted to this kind of torture.

The US Horse Soldier's not dead! Just think: no need to worry about eloctro-magnetic weapons, little upkeep, eats grass, can move over almost any kind of trail or terrain, isn't too loud. However, I doubt this is what the sci-fi folks in the 50's and 60's expected our top line troops to be using come the 21st century!

#9 Are you talking about the two in the rear of a chopper, with rifles? They were flying low and waiting to fire back, if fired upon.

I just think he is a self centered moron. I think it is absolutely ridiculous to go around posting ads for his website. His site has nothing to do with any of the threads but he is desperate for attention and hits. I think for every ad he posts on Free Republic he should pay a tax to Jim Robinson.

In the reporting and discussion of this picture on Fox this morning they refered to these as Special Forces and Special Ops.
Does anyone know the difference? Is there a difference in Special Forces and Special Ops?

Strictly speaking this is not Cavalry. Cavalry troopers are trained to fight both mounted and dismounted. These soldiers are riding their mounts to the battlefield and then dismounting. That makes them Mounted Infrantry not Cavalry.
