Another great "romantic" movie - but which also was much more than that - was "El Cid" - with Charlton Heston and Sophia Loren.

Not the one with Sophia Loren? What about Remains of the Day-Anthony Hopkins & Emma Thompson? Actually gives a small role to Christpher Reeves-his last movie before his tragic accident.

Die Hard

No, no. Die Hard is the best Christmas movie. Well, A Christmas Story might be better but only because you can watch that with the whole family.

I'm not that big on 'chick flicks', but "Shadowlands" with Anthony Hopkins and Debra Winger gets me sobbing every time.

anything with Tracy and Hepburn

You know, for the life of me, I just never saw the appeal of that coupling--I just never picked up on any chemistry. IMO, K.Hepburn was AOK, though -- I always liked that WASPy type...

"A Patch of Blue", 1965, starring Sidney Pottier. His selfless love for his blind friend (Elizabeth Hartman), which goes beyond romantic and sexual, is deeply moving, and her appreciation for him and love without knowing what he looks like is heart rending. Stark but tender, will leave you in tears every time.
