A BROWNIE pack has been forced to leave a church after parents and group leaders were pelted with stones and abused by local youths.
The incidents were reported before an arson attempt was thwarted in an attack by vandals at the same church, St Philip's, in Girlington, Bradford, West Yorks, on Bonfire Night.
On that occasion the Rev Tony Tooby, the vicar, had to flee from a gang of up to 60 Asians, some masked, who chanted "Get the white bastard" and hurled a rock through his car's rear window.
Police are still investigating what they have described as a racist incident in which two stained glass windows were smashed, prayer books strewn around and evidence was found of preparations to start a fire.
It has now emerged that the 18th St Philip's Bradford Brownies, which has met in the church for over 20 years, has been forced to switch its weekly meetings to elsewhere in the city because of harassment.
Brown Owl Lucy-Jane Marshall, 22, who is a member of the church, said she had stones thrown at her and had been called a "Christian bitch" while parents' cars had been attacked with stones and eggs.
She said: "On every occasion the police were contacted. When the incident happened with me, the police arrived and four boys, aged 16 plus, had disappeared by this time. I was on my own and I was really frightened.
"At the moment the community says it is thuggery, but I believe the opposite. If I was an Asian lady walking to the church I would not have got the treatment I got. I was called a Christian bitch. If that isn't racist, what is?"
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: "We were concerned and saddened to learn that the Brownies have been forced to move out of the church because of harassment fears.
"Incidents like this on local community groups who are working for the good of the community are to be deplored and are being looked into by the police as a result of the latest incident at the church."
Ayub Laher, vice president of the Bradford Council for Mosques, said some youths did not realise the fear they were spreading.
He added: "They think it is fun to frighten some poor lady, but what they think is harmless fun is frightening people out of their lives."

Actually, as sickening as this attack was, Britain has had terrible racial problems since the 1950s. Much as in the US, the original race riots were by whites against minorities, with the situation reversing itself over time.

Try a stunt like this in Texas and you will experience the harmless fun of the unorganized militia.
Whether this is good or bad is for future generations to conclude.
