One "g" is the force you feel right now, pulling you toward the center of the earth. If you were sitting at your computer on the moon, you'd feel 1/8th the force. If a mere third to eight-tenths of that much force (in the form of the wind pushing rather than the earth pulling) snapped the vertical stabilizer of this plane, something must have been wrong with the plane. Imagine somehow turning the aircraft over on its side somehow and exposing the vertical stabilizer to a full g pulling it sidewise to its normal orientation. Should it break? I don't think so. I am quite sure they are supposed to handle much greater force than that.

Hope that helps.

maybe if the bolts were loosened a little bitty g-force could do it...

NTSB dude just claimed that .3 to .8 g's encountered during the wake encounter caused the Airbus to break up in flight...

Did he actually say that was conclusively the cause? I sincerely doubt the NTSB has reached a conclusion this early.

Sorry to doubt your earwitness testimony, but I don't believe this.

If anything, I think the A-300 might have a design flaw. At least that one had SOME kind of flaw. I don't buy the bomb theory, if its a coverup, its a Frogbus coverup.

Anybody ever work with composite materials? I know for a fact that if you have a flaw in the laminate/resin, you can have some serious weakening... I would want to see that tail section, take it apart bit by bit.

This is a cover up courtesy of our Govt.
( Why do you think the GOP is caving into the RATS on the airport security bill?, because they know AA was a terroist act and the GOP doesn't want to be blamed for the crash )
Within 30 minutes into this crash, they said it was an accident, and that is what they will stick with.
Furthermore, Bubba's administration was not the only one which lied? ( Think again, they all lie , remember " read my lying lips"

They were talking about LATERAL g's. The aircraft was slammed sideways by turbulence. The rolling wing tip vortex slammed the plane SIDEAWAYS.

Did the bridge take a while to fall apart. It didn't happen within a second or so did it? Also didn't it break up into chunks instead of the entire tail falling off the plane? Wouldn't the bolts holding the tail on break first considering they are the weakest point?

Anyone else watch the NTSB briefing?

No, it's a foolish waste of time. Their investigation is total FUBAR. A typical government foul up. I can't beleive now they are going to turn air line security over to the Feds. If something goes wrong on that watch they will be blameless.

Why give the terrorists the knowledge that the U.S. knows they scored another hit? --nothing's better than frustrating a terrorist.

Obviously, that's only speculation. IMO, if the U.S. population were to find out it was another terrorist strike; it would only further galvanize support for the war. Maybe our leadership is holding that card until it's really needed.

Maybe it was an accident like the screw mechanism for the rudder in the 727.

including a blast of air that sent it careening sideways just seconds before it crashed

All this, and turbulence too???? Where did the "blast of air" come from? The Big Bad Wolf????

This is the best they can come up with? It was terrorism....plain and simple! Just like TWA-800. They just don't dare tell us. I know I'm not flying on the "busiest travel day of the year".

when you SCUBA dive to 33 feet depth, you are experiencing one full additional earth gravity

Aren't you talking about pressure here, rather than gravity?

Ah, so you take the required loading and multiply it by 1.7 to get the required loading? But since the required loading is 1.7 the required loading, you have to multiply it by 1.7 agian, right? So the required loading is actually the required loading times 1.7 to the infinite power? Well, that is strong!

My point is that 1.7 must not be enough.

I hope they can help, because if nobody is to blame, then I see no reason why any of us should ever fly again, as nobody can give any guarentee it will not happen again. A better excuse would be a bomb at least we know we have to be careful and improve secuirty dramatically, but to say nobody and its just an accident.

I think we need to get to the bottom of this and quickly and if they do not give answers, then we should boycott the airlines, until we get some answers and as the saying goes "hit them in their pockets", and we will get some quick answers, as the IRS and the Government will get the message.
