Just me and my Dad: The Koran, an AK47 and some of that Holy Green"

According to a tradition of theirs, the green colour is considered holy among the Mahomedans. Only Serifs (saints), and especially those who have made the holy pilgrimage to Mekka, are allowed to wear a green turban and a green cloak; but this is strictly interdicted to any other, especially to a non-Mislamin, and is considered as an infringement on their religion, and as blasphemy, and therefore severely punished. For this reason they call the prophet Elijah "Al Chatr," the Green; and the spot where he is said to have shown himself, according to their tradition, is also called "Al Chatr." It is now some years ago that a highly respected English lord was ill-treated in the public street of Constantinople, because the pious believers observed that he wore green pantaloons. Soon after my arrival in Jerusalem, my mother-in-law stood one day near the door of my house, when suddenly a furious Mahomedan rushed upon her with a drawn dagger, and she was only able to escape the deadly weapon by a precipitate flight. Her offence was, that she wore for her head-dress a green shawl.

But of late they are not so particular any more, thanks to the enlightened policy of Mahmud Ali, of Egypt; still it would not be advisable to appear even now with a green garment, if one would not desire to be exposed to a brutal persecution on the part of some fanatical Arab.(from:Descriptive Geography and Brief Historical Sketch of Palestine. By Rabbi Joseph Schwarz)

Hmmmmm? What kind of holiness requires an AK47?

Bob Novak (who converted from Judaism) is an anti-Semite, Baker is not really in the mix now, Powell is a RINO, and Bush, Cheney, Condie Rice and Rumsfeld are all clearly pro-Israel. Bush is only making noises about a P-state to keep the Arabs on the reservation, and all he is really doing is pushing Tenet/Mitchell and that is not new. Just a rehash meant to look like something new.

I doubt I sound neutral to a fanatic from either side.
OTOH, I really don't care WHAT a fanatic thinks.

Totally? BenF and I have been having an interesting discussion about what this means.

Indeed, Romulus. However, I would caution you about taking that discussion out of context. Veronica's statement is true depending on it's interpretation. Most Jews do totally support the idea of Israel and the idea that Jews have a right to live in peace and security.

Two religious peoples claiming the same land based upon ancient texts that told them that each had a sacred right to be there.

You know, I've always been basically neutral/pro-Israel, but the one-sided rants

Yeah. It must have been those fanatical Jews getting blown up in school and other civilian buses or in pizzerias or shot on the roads that turned you.

Maybe the rant you hear is the death agony of toddlers getting blown up.

The Arabs began the cycle in the early 20th century,

A cycle is a thing that repeats over and over. It is not maintained by who starts it, and that is highly questionable, but by those who keep adding the opposing force necessary for it to keep turning. Both sides have to be equally at fault or the cycle would end.

What's wrong with this picture?

You are hardly unbiased. I can tell this by your high pitched squawking. If you like the way the Muslims do things then move to a Muslim nation give this advice to many people. Instead you seem to be carping from Taiwan which ain't such a bad place to be.

It's easy for you to lecture Israel when they are the ones surrounded by Jihadist psychos with a sky high birthrate despite being so "oppressed".

They cannot so much as dig a well for desperately needed water without Israeli military permission

A lie. This is not true in areas run by the PA. Check it out! Pallies are responsible for their own water in those areas.

Another way to judge a cycle is to count corpses. Many more Palestinian men, women and children have been killed than Israelis.

Israel is being attacked and Israel shoots back. This is not WW2 you know. These Jews have guns and thank G_d for that. If the Pallies had the F16 fighter airplanes instead of the Jews having them, Israel would have been gone years ago.

What would you be saying if the Palestinians were opposing the Jews out of Israel? You would be saying  >>> Good riddance to them............ There should never have been an Israel in the first place.

There is nothing Israeli Jews could do to make you happy short of agreeing to destruction.

According to Israeli sources the Palestinians have dug 1400 "illegal" shallow wells because of their water pipes are cut of all but a few hours a day for a couple of days a week.

The shallow wells pick up pollutant ground-water run-off and that water eventually makes its way back to the aquifers in the Jordan Basin.

The Israelis do collect taxes from the Occupied territories, but the infrastructure development that money buys all goes to the Jewish-only settlements.

Lots of little wrinkles that most Americans don't know a thing about.

The Israelis haven't spent much money on waste water mgmt for the occupied territories so the raw sewage from the settlements is pumped away from the settlements and dumped on Palestine land.

Expansion pressures for a greater Israel certainly contribute to the momentum of "the cycle".
