My sister's boyfriend was going back to his job working for Mayor Giuliani, arriving at about that time. I found out that, Thank God, he was on another airline.
Those poor people. Let's hope that because of the slowdown in flying the plane was at low capacity.

airbus leaving jfk for caribbean.

It's a Federal Holiday today. One would expect their to be fewer passenger on this flight. That may be good news. Of course, the Terrorists on 9/11 picked flights they knew would be lightly loaded.
Flight 587 to Santo Domingo. I guess it was outbound. Would have been fully fueled.
Airbus A-300, according to ABCNews.

airbus - outbound - left at 9:15 - headed to S. America

Heard on Fox or CNN that the Rockaway precint is where the plane crashed. Isn't that were Moran is from? Speculation by me, but could this Osama's response?

Eyewitness report on Channel 7 WABC
Reports that he saw engine fall off, plane tip sideways, and then go down. Location is at 130th to 131st street.
AA 587 departed 9:15 for Santo Domingo. Airbus, not 767.

I grew up in southeast Queens--Springfield Gardens. The air traffic was always very heavy there--accidents are not out of the norm for the area.

In that case it was an Airbus A300 not a 767

CNN/MSNBC report that the plane was an AIRBUS A-300 leaving the airport
To: hellinahandcart
It was LEAVING JFK for Santo Domingo. Rockaways are on direct flyway to JFK--it's next door. Now saying AirBus 300.

And, my paranoid self this morning was thinking that OBL didn't need nukes, he could just smuggle in some stingers and set them up on airport arrival and departure areas and bring down lots of planes. Sir SuziQ just popped in and told me about this crash. The stinger missle idea was his first thought, too!

Not many Arabs in Rockaway. Blacks and Irish.

now saying it was premature to say it was landing, was taking off....
To: mwl1
airbus - outbound - left at 9:15 - headed to S. America. More than 30 children in this neighborhood lost a parent on 9/11.
To: MindBender26
I'll throw another one into the mix here. Local radio news is reporting it as an A300, not a 767. First time I have heard this.
To: gridlock
An Airbus A-300 looks a lot like a 757. Both twin engine wide bodies.
