This just in from Alwayswatching, Brenda's sister.
Hi Joe,
Noticed the interest this morning and I'm not sure how to post properly so I thought I'd pass on to you the state of things as I know today. The fire dept. has stated conclusively that it was arson but will not elaborate to anyone. Belinda is in the hospital again. This has just been too much for her in addition to her physical problems. She was eager to post a "thank you" to all Freepers;she has just been overwhelmed.Could you post a general expression of her gratitude to all those and explain that she has not forgotten and will contact them as soon as possible. As Herb's sister-in-law,I too am so grateful for all of the interest and help.
Thank you...******
Our prayers are with you and Brenda.

I've really thought about the Chief and his family, this weekend. So very sad. Thanks for the update, and please let us know if we can help, in any way.

Thanks for the update--we continue our prayers!

This is very sad to hear. Thanks for the report.
I'd sure like to know the motive behind this. Someone has to have a pretty big beef to do something like this, real or imagined.
Please let the family know that we'll be following this very closely.

This arson was murder. I want to know why. Why did a murderer kill the Chief? Was a killing hired? Why?

Just remembering Chief like we are today revitalizes me and further steels my determination. I have an idea...today at 5pm,raise a glass and yell Semper Fi to the heavens. And if you REALLY want to honor Chief...make it a Red Dog beer!He actually loved that stuff. I never had the guts to try it but there's always a first time for a good cause. He would want us all to be happy.I miss his really bad puns and his fabulous mind-blowing card tricks... Too bad we just can't form a posse and look for this creep. It would feel good to just know who it is. Thanks everybody.

A salute to the Chief bump!

"This arson was murder." Yes, in the state of Texas an arson in which someone dies is a murder.
I would like the answers to those questions, also.
If I get some answers tomorrow when I talk to the detectives, I'll post them here.

Please give your sister and extra hug from those of us that never met the Chief, but wish that we had.
The written word can sometimes reveal so much more of the inner person than can be seen in person. (In fact, I fell in love with my wife through letters). I believe that all of us freepers saw into the soul of a truly remarkable and admirable man. The love that he felt for his wife, children, grandchildren, his mother, and his country was awe inspiring. The Chief always conducted himself with the manners of a true gentleman, and it was obvious that he was not just acting the part.
While I know that Herb is sitting with God and that our loss is Heaven's gain, it is with deep concern that Herb's family is in my heart. To lose someone like him is beyond the scope of my experience. I can only pray that God comforts and brings His peace to the family, especially to your sister.
I can also hope that there is an especially hot place in hell for whoever did this abominable crime.
Thanks for the update, please let us know if there is anything that any of us can do.

"He didn't write a note!"
tsk, tsk Marine, you call that an excuse?
besides Chief always knew I couldn't spell worth a darn LOL
Damm COB1 I wish you and I could go hunting for the person(s) responsible for this.
I'd even give you 1st shot, you being a Marine and all that.
To: COB1
Hi COB1! You back from the field?
BTW, I've heard HFD is rather inept, so give 'em hector for us, will you? Tell 'em to get off their duffs and get to work!
And to Belinda, all my prayers. Chief is happy and free now... No worries, just guarding his buddies in Afghanistan. I sure hope they have Red Dog in Heaven.
