A freeper's observation: Last Tuesday's Elections, The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

In this essay, I will offer my analysis into last Tuesday's elections. In a recent analysis, I mentioned that these elctions would be a barometer of how 2002 would be. Well, that would still be the case except that a few things need to be pointed out.

They say that all politics are local. The elections that took place were actully on the statewide and local levels and just because one state or municipality voted a certain way doesn't neccsairily mean a whole nation is going vote this way next year. Regions have diffeerent ways of thinking as was evidenced by the various results.

Let's start out in New Jersey where Brett Schundler lost. This really was a very sad deal, made even more sad by the fact that the N.J. G.O.P. choose not to rally around him. Apprently, this state has a bunch of liberals, progressives & moderates in both parties. There doesn't seem to be any room for conservatives in New Jersey. That's really sad because I know many places and many people that couldn't survive without the expertise or business and charitable contruibutions of conservatives like here in Southwest Oklahoma. It'll be interesting to see how Mcgreevy and the Democrats in control in N.J. handle being critiqued along with their actions in the next couple of years by freepers and conservatives. I know that X42 was not such a good sports about having himself and his actions critiqued by his critics.

The news gets a little better in Vriginia where John Warner, Democrat, the man who said conservatives and chirtians were a threat to this nation won the governorship in Virginia. The good part about this is that Repuiblicans won control of both houses in that state so it's going to be a little difficult for him to get his agenda through in that state.

The news gets even better in New York City where Steve Bloomberg, Republican defeated Mark Green, Democrat to become mayor. Now I know Bloomberg is a liberal, but I think he'll do a pretty good job of helping New York come out of the awful events of September 11th. He is an honest man who has experience in business affairs and I'm sure he'll know how to handle things. As I'm sure you know Mark green received the endorsements of X42 and Ted Kennedy. There was an article about that by the Washington Times. An article which BTW was posted 5 times here on FR.

Here in our neck of the woods, across the river in the Texas state senatorial district which includes Wichita Falls, Craig Estes (R) will be in a runoff against the lone Democrat in the 8 man race. Because neither got the 50% required for a majority, these two men will face off in a runoff In December. We're pulling for Estes to win that one. This special election is is to replace John Hirschi who has represented this area very well for the last several years. He passed away recently from a medical problem that he had been battling over the last several momths.

The christian community achieved a victory in Houston with the defeat of same sex benefits. Next month, the Democrat mayor will compete in a runoff against a Republican opponent. That'll be interesting to watch. Cinnicinati relelected it's incumbent mayor. His opponent was someone who used the riots for political purposes. Detroit has a Democrat for mayor. That city is having numerous budget problems and I understand their police department is under investigation by the justice department. Finally, Atlanta elected it's first woman mayor. I understand that city is also having budget problems too.

All in all this election has produced some up's and down's for the conservative cause. Again each and every one of these issues are local in nature and are really nothing more than a barometer of how each of these regions may vote in the 2002 elecions.

All that New Jersey proved is that you can't win if the head of your party and the party establishment actively campaign against you, and support your opponent.

On the brighter side, a conservative is planning to challenge Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen, a liberal Republican. (Schundler won his district, 56-43, so it shouldn't be a stretch -- the incumbent factor will be more of a problem than the ideology factor).

Hopefully, if we can win this small race, we can build a foundation (brick by brick, piece by piece) for a Schundler victory in 2005.

Clik, not to be contrary, but Schundler should consider a new line of work. Although it's true that he was conspired against by liberal Republicans, his campaign and debate performances were factors as well. Better to try someone else next time, and let Schundler persue more productive interests. Bob Franks was not my favorite choice either, but being pragmatic, I would have much preferred him to "McGeedy." I'm as conservative as they come, but I will take a moderate Republican over a Democrat any day. And we have to remember where we are; New Jersey is not a hotbed of conservatism. The Virginia race is more puzzling, but I never expected Schundler to win his race.....

Warner ran as a conservative republican. to the right of the GOP in all the issues....and maybe enough folks in Va thought that sen warner was running for Governor, that they voted for "him"

Made even sadder by the fact that Schundler's loss could easily have been prevented by simply taking a few minutes to phone in to the Howard Stern Show. This was a No-Brainer and I warned weeks before the election about the consequences of failing to seek Howard's endorsement.

I was just taking a look at all the responses form the thread and LOL was the first thing that popped into my mind with #2.

We'll have to see how all these things come out over the next several years. The reamrk that was attibuted to Warnerwas from an ad that was reported on in an article that was posted here. As to Howard Stern. I don't know what he could have done to help Schundler win. I don't think it would have done any good. Maybe our side will have better luck in 2005.
