June 13, 1943 - General Patton, informed by the King of England (visiting in North Africa) that General Alexander had said: That the American soldiers would soon be the best soldiers in the world. Patton responds: I do not like to disagree with General Alexander, but at present, the American soldiers are the best soldiers in the world and will take on any soldier of any country at any time.
1974 - The mayor of Cambridge, Massachusetts requests troops from General George S. Pattons command to reenact George Washingtons commission ceremony. Patton offers Green Berets; the mayor refuses, but later agrees. At the ceremony, a hippie calls a Green Beret Sgt. Major (in formation) a Baby Killer and pushes a flower in his face. With Pattons permission, the soldier speaks just a few words (added by me- fill in the blanks, but the actual words are on record). The hippie hurriedly vanishes; the ceremony continues uninterrupted.
