Fr. Pavone is alive and well, and he's behind the abortion "billboard truck" campaign!
Catholic Answers ^ | 10/29 | Fr. Frank Pavone

Posted on 11/08/2001 10:12:29 AM PST by Aquinasfan

I was listening to an archived broadcast (10/29/01) of Catholic Answers today that featured Fr. Frank Pavone. He said that he's "in negotiations" with Cardinal Egan regarding remaining with Priests for Life in some capacity.

Even better, he mentioned that he has been working with a Catholic attorney regarding overturning Roe v. Wade. The attorney recommended the famous "rolling billboard" campaign. The lawyer researched how issues like slavery were overturned by the SC in the past. He determined that in every case the bulk of the population was presented with images of the injustice –whether they liked it or not. And so the billboard campaign was devised.

The campaign consists of photos of aborted babies three months of age or less, the age when 90% of abortions occur, mounted on tractor-trailers. Then they roll. LET'S ROLL!

I noticed that you have referred to these several times in different threads.

Have I? Where?

Actually, that was me, Romulus. I guess pcl can't keep us Romans straight.

I also believe that a fetus is a potential person. The closer it gets to birth, the greater the potential. A third trimester fetus has such a high potential to become a person that I would need a very good reason to abort it

Jer 1:5

Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations

you will be able to see more easily that your position is incoherent.

Okay, thanks. Now what?

The fetus of a homo sapian become a person when it take its first breath of air into its lungs.

How convenient! Why do you use that as a test for personhood? Why not wait until the proto-human is able to provide for him/her self? This would give the parents a lot more time to decide whether they want to keep the little bugger. And what is this business about a soul? Why do you use theo-speek for a secular, purely rational decision?

Seriously if your going to use some arbitrary event like drawing the first breath why not use one that gives the prospective parents more freedom to choose. I mean after all that's what it's all about isn’t it? Choice, convenience, etc.

These pictures are very disturbing. You cannot help but think about something that most Americans would rather ignore. We need an honest debate about abortion. Not shrill denial/attacks like we get from pcl. Your "you must get turned on by death, etc" attacks are quite disturbing as well. Methinks you are one sick puppy.

Why do you use that as a test for personhood?

Because that is what I believe.

Why to you pray to Jesus. Why not pray to Odin?

Why to you pray to Jesus. Why not pray to Odin?

Because Jesus is the Son of God and odin is a fantasy, just like the belief that personhood begins with the act of drawing a breath.

Also if the pictures of aborted (murdered) children are obscene, isn’t the act that produced the subject matter obscene as well?

We need an honest debate about abortion.

Honesty in the debate about abortion? Give me a break. Have you seen the grabage that has been posted here by the Pro-lifers?

Yesterday one of your fellow travelers stated that everyone who supports abortion should be tried for murder. That is the type of honest debate that brings distain to your cause. That and the public display of obscene images.

The idea that fetuses are persons is a myth. It is myth created by those who would meddle in the morality of others.

Okay, thanks. Now what?

If you see that your position is in error, you should reject it and embrace the truth: that the soul comes into being at fertilization.

The idea that fetuses are persons is a myth. It is myth created by those who would meddle in the morality of others.

Actually unborn children are considered persons for legal reasons in many cases. So it's not a myth. They myth is that designating some arbitrary point of personhood is anything but self-serving.

Care to comment on the obscene nature of the act that provides content for what you perceive as obscene pictures? Or are you going to take a pass on that comment for some reason?

Actually unborn children are considered persons for legal reasons in many cases.

This is a common misperception.

In almost all those cases those unborn children are not considered legal persons per se. The cases that seem to allow this concept are generally property cases. The law allows that these unborn children do have claims on property if they are born. In the case the case where the unborn dies before birth, the title of the property is not shown to have ever been in possesion of the unborn.

For example, death taxes. A person dies leaving property to an unborn. The property of the person who died is subjected to a death tax. If the unborn dies before birth, there is not another death tax levied. The property goes to the next person who has claims.
