Just to take a break from politics for a bit, I was wondering if there are others out there who also have a taste for weird exotic foods. I thought I was one of a kind in this regard until I read a newspaper article that said that there are many folks who have a hankering for exotic foods that others may find yucky.
I've eaten sea urchin eggs directly from sea urchins, cooked ox tails (or "tako" as it is called in the Phillipines), raw quail eggs, all manner of spicy European sausages such as the very garlicky Kabanosi, blood sausages in Argentina, alligator meat, and I don't even have to be drunk to eat the worm in the Mezcal bottle (although I usually am since I have to drink my way to reach it).
So what are your favorite "yucky" foods? I am always on the lookout for new exotic foods so I will be most interested in reading your comments and food suggestions.

I was at a pot-luck type get together once and an Indian (not Native-American) couple had a dish with potatoes, spinach, and some other stuff in it seasoned with a spice whose name I cant remember. They said that it was a staple in India. Does anyone have any idea what this dish might be? It was awesome, If it was primarily made of creamed spinach, with a few chunks of other stuff in it, it may have been saag paneer.
And yes, it's awesome.
If it was primarily potatoes, then it was something else. There are a lot of nice "potatoes in sauce" Indian dishes. What color was the sauce?

Yeah, yeah, I know, some (unadventurous) people would rather die than to smell the STINK of a durian. Heck, a few countries even BAN the presence of durian in selected public spots due to its offensive smell I've heard the smell of durian described as, "like vomit mixed with a corpse".

This is not as um . . . er . . . "odd" as some other things posted here, but I make a mean "7 Root soup" every fall. All root vegetables (onions, carrots, kohlrabi, turnips, parsnips, garlic, and rhutabaga) with salt, pepper and a pinch of nutmeg. It is exquisite!

Recently I was with an America couple visiting this part of the world and got to hear their opinion on the taste of durian. The husband said it tasted like a combination of fried onions, garlic and kerosene. His wife said simply that it tastes like kerosene.
Some definitely don't like the taste and I think it's because they can't get past the smell. Even locals say that durian "tastes like heaven but smells like hell."

Not too weird but in college I lived on spagetteos and budweiser. I have always liked grape-nuts in chocolate milk, and potato chips dipped in mustard.

I dont think it really had a sauce, it was either baked or fried, and was somewhat oily. It was obviously a very simple dish, and the spices made it awesome. Should have written it down...JFK

Are you now in a Jewish rye breadless area? I can probably dig up a recipe for you - an authentic Jewish round rye bread with the cornmeal on the bottom.

So no cornmeal in the bread but just on bottom so it doesn't stick to the board or the oven? I'm in South Florida and good Jewish rye bread is available. But is Sherman Oaks an epicenter or what? Even 25 years ago I knew the tribe was there in great numbers. LOL!

I once read about a type of meat jerky from South Africa. I forgot the name of it but it sounded interesting. Apparently it is very popular there. Does anybody know the name of it and is it available here in the USA?

Hmm.. Alligator.. and bison.. both VERY good.

Hmm.. Alligator.. and bison.. And I've had both. I really liked buffalo stew. BTW, whatever happened to Beefalo? I believe it was 3/8 buffalo and 5/8 cow. It was heavily promoted at one time but I rarely hear about it now.

Hmm that's right it has kinda gone by the wayside. I remember something about the hybrids being easier to care for.. more docile.
