Yeah, yeah, I know, some (unadventurous) people would rather die than to smell the STINK of a durian. Heck, a few countries even BAN the presence of durian in selected public spots due to its offensive smell

I've heard the smell of durian described as, "like vomit mixed with a corpse".

Recently I was with an America couple visiting this part of the world and got to hear their opinion on the taste of durian. The husband said it tasted like a combination of fried onions, garlic and kerosene. His wife said simply that it tastes like kerosene.

Some definitely don't like the taste and I think it's because they can't get past the smell. Even locals say that durian "tastes like heaven but smells like hell."
