This shouldn't surprise anyone who's been around. The media regularly exaggerates the numbers from demonstrations they consider their sacred cows such as abortion, gun-grabbing, and gay rights. And they regularly shrink the numbers at rallies of conservatives. Just shows how the media has classified the Islamic demonstrators.
By the way, I'd be interested if anyone else comes across similar stories of exaggerations from the war front.

Would someone please explain to me why LYING is not a criminal offense? The FCC should pull Time Warner's license for this outrage!
Streching the truth a bit is one thing, to over state things by 10 TIMES brinks on being a FELONY.

The worst offender here, even worse than CNN, is anti-American PMSNBC reporter Ashleigh Banfield. Her hatred of America is deep and obvious with every wrinkle of her forehead and the apparent "glee" with which she receives Taliban propaganda reports of alleged civilian casualties.

HEY ... as has been explained at length many times since our latest War on a Noun began, it is in OUR INTEREST to have the government and the media lie to us as they see fit.

I learned this lesson 10 years ago when I was in the middle east shortly before the Somalia debacle. I was at a satellite earth station watching a live feed (raw video, about 15 minutes) being routed from a market square in Somalia to CNN in the US. To make a long story short, I saw that exact same video that night on CNN International, but it was edited down to a 3 second soundbite with the commentator explaining the opposite of what really happened. I have shunned the news media ever since (until I found FR and Fox came around).

CNN has this nasty little habit of reporting their opinions as news. They really like to take shots at Bush. They are always looking to destroy someone.

It goes like this. Believe nothing you hear and only half of what you see. Actually I wish the Muslims would get angry and throw the Western Media out of there countries.

Vincent Laforet is an excellent photographer and a very courageous man. I've only been in a few third world countries (unless you count New Orleans), but the pack animal attitude of the crowds is the scariest thing I've ever seen.
Photojournalists are the junk yard dogs of journalism. They go places other people are afraid to go and take photographs other people are afraid to take. The fact that this guy has the guts to be there, and to take the photographs he's taken, says a lot about him. His blatant disrespect for the power puff boys of the media and his willingness to talk about it...
You see- the press here spends their entire day lounging on lawn chairs in the garden of the Press Club. The government comes to them when they have a press release to hand out or an event they want covered. So a bunch of pro-active, aggressive journalists might as well be from Mars.
This statement alone could get him black-balled from dozens of news outlets, the ones where he makes his money. I'll grant, the guy could use a proof reader. Some of his words and spelling are off-base. All in all, though, I wish there were a lot more people like him out there. The truth might actually get printed sometimes, even if it is with a few typographical errors.

I have personaly met in NYC some American and British "journalists" who were on the way to Pakistan. They hated America with passion, and admitted to me (while under the influence of Jack Daniel), that they will do whatever they could to help the Talibans. I am not kidding. I was disgusted with them.

This goes along with what my conservative Daddy told me many years ago. Don't believe anything you read or hear and only half of what you see. He wasn't even talking about TV.

I don't watch CNN because I can't stomach it,
but I do watch the BBC at least for a few minutes each night,
and it is transparently clear that many of the 'demonstrations' they show are staged
(by the BBC, of course)

The media regularly exaggerates the numbers from demonstrations they consider their sacred cows such as abortion, gun-grabbing, and gay rights. And they regularly shrink the numbers at rallies of conservatives. In 1989(?) pro-life demonstrators marched in Washington DC. At the height of the rally, over 500,000 (US Park Service numbers) protestors were present. AT THAT VERY MOMENT, a CNN info-gal reported live that there were "upwards of 50,000" pro-life demonstrators. Somehow, she misplaced 450,000 people.

Yes, and how many times have they done that same thing to FR during our freeps. They say the other side had hundreds and we had a handful - when it was the other way around. I don't have cable, so I don't frustrate myself by watching CNN. Even if I had cable, I would not watch CNN.
