American Airlines Flight 11 was in line for takeoff from Logan International Airport, the passengers already reminded to turn off personal electronic devices, when Mohamed Atta, in seat 8D in first class, dialed his cell phone for the last time.

At least it should be tougher for these nutcases to recruit 'soldiers' in the future.

Thanks for the ping. I'll have to compare this with the other stories I have if I ever get my info on each terrorist filed like it should be.
I remember they orginally said the operation had been in planning for more than 5 years.
aristeides- notice the mentions of Vegas and Prague. McVeigh also went to Vegas.
As a common vacation destination, it would be a good place to meet with those on the inside who couldn't afford be seen in a meeting.

Very interesting if chilling report. I took note of the possibility that the pilots may have been told these were "traditional hijackings" which is what the administration is saying they thought the warnings were referring to.
In spite of the speculation in the media, before 911, the term hijacking would have meant the same thing to me.

The men were probably following the al Qaeda manual's protocol: Meet at a place that offers good cover. So, now the investigators can case all the motels that offer good cover. Almost an impossible task.

Thanks for the ping. Two things occurred to me on reading the article:
The article states that Atta called Al-Shehhi on a cell phone while waiting to take off. I wonder if there is any evidence of phone calls from any of the known hijackers to terrorists who have been rumored to have been on other planes, their plans thwarted by the quick decision to ground all planes.
The trip(s) to Bangkok are of possible interest. Recall the speculation that the anthrax might have come from Southeast Asia.

the FBI says that it has confirmed the identities of all 19 of the hijackers, and that 15 were Saudis.
Early on I remember atta was identified as an Egyptian!

Wasn't Atta Egyptian?
