Well, FReepers, THE BALLAD OF MIKE MORAN is becoming a reality. For those just tuning in, I wrote a song for fireman Mike Moran after hearing his "Osama bin Laden, you can kiss my royal Irish ass" at the VH1 concert. It was written to the tune of WEARIN' O THE GREEN.
FReeper vetnet, a screenwriter, saw the song and contacted me. We spent considerable time doing a re-write of the original and then he took the bull by the b*lls. Vetnet arranged for studio time, seven professional singers, a digital mixer (if that's the right word), and he put it together today. I am told the singers were on and the song is going to be a blockbuster.
Mike Moran contacted me yesterday by FReepmail and said that he loves the song. I hope this can be a mega fundraiser for the rescue workers. Any suggestions from FReepers as to who can handle donations would be appreciated. (It's a cinch this isn't going to be handled by the Red Cross or the anti-Scout United Way). Also, please call your local radio stations to request it.
Here is the final version.
MIDI - WEARIN' O THE GREEN
The Ballad of Mike Moran
I am Irish and was proud to serve with other firemen,
Who gave their lives for us that day, each one of them a friend,
In remembrance of my brothers who from earthly bonds did pass,
Osama, step right up and kiss my royal Irish ass.
Theyre the bravest men Ive known
and Ill miss them everyday,
I will keep them in my heart, so theyre never far away,
In remembrance of my brothers, who from earthly bonds did pass,
Osama, step right up and kiss my royal Irish ass,
Youll pay the price, but first youll kiss my royal Irish ass.
Never thinking of their safety, only saving other lives,
They never made it home to see their daughters, sons, or wives,
In remembrance of my brothers who from earthly bonds did pass,
Osama, step right up and kiss my royal Irish ass.
Try to take our freedom and youve made a big mistake,
The spirit of America, youre never going to break.

I can't get the RealPlayer link to work - get an error message that I'm not online - sigh. Just listened to some of Rush's stuff via RealPlayer without a prob.
Earlier tonight, I was rewinding a VCR tape and there was Tom Brokaw, replaying a clip of Mike Moran's famous message. Then this thread tonight. Wish I could hear the song.
KVI 570 AM in Seattle will almost certainly play the CD. Here's their web info. Contact 5 - 9 AM talk show host Kirby Wilbur.

WOW! I've been in the studio for the last few days and I see you guys & gals have been busy!!! I love this community spirit! After lurking for the past two years, I see now that I should have gotten involved earlier.
I think everyone is going to be very pleased with the final cut of this song and very shortly you'll see that it syncs up fine with the lyrics. Our seven vocalists included two former firemen, a sheriff's deputy, disaster recovery specialist, and some other very patriotic and supportive individuals that all volunteered for the project.
Our Navy corpsman "Doc" prescribed each of us a shot of "Bushmills Irish Whiskey" after we wrapped and we toasted the Moran brothers & their families.
All of these posts and everyone's support have really warmed my heart and I believe that we are truly witnessing something amazing with this crusade. It is my sincere hope that this song offers empowerment to Americans everywhere.
Please keep those addresses coming and we'll mail a CD to every radio station or broadcast contact that any Freeper requests.

Gretchen, there is a Yahoo Player that can be downloaded for free. Try that and see if it works.

All the FReepers owe you a debt of gratitude for the amazing work you've done and time you've spent on this project. It took someone like you to make it happen. New FReeper royal IA is going to be pleased. I think we really are going to be able to raise some money and help the families.
I sent you an e-mail about the FReeper who can get this into the hands of the right person at a major record chain.

DOUG:
Where can we download this song for St. Patrick's Day?
