THE BALLAD OF MIKE MORAN --- Update
dfu | 10-01-01 | dfu

Posted on 11/01/2001 6:00:31 PM PST by doug from upland

Well, FReepers, THE BALLAD OF MIKE MORAN is becoming a reality. For those just tuning in, I wrote a song for fireman Mike Moran after hearing his "Osama bin Laden, you can kiss my royal Irish ass" at the VH1 concert. It was written to the tune of WEARIN' O THE GREEN.

FReeper vetnet, a screenwriter, saw the song and contacted me. We spent considerable time doing a re-write of the original and then he took the bull by the b*lls. Vetnet arranged for studio time, seven professional singers, a digital mixer (if that's the right word), and he put it together today. I am told the singers were on and the song is going to be a blockbuster.

Mike Moran contacted me yesterday by FReepmail and said that he loves the song. I hope this can be a mega fundraiser for the rescue workers. Any suggestions from FReepers as to who can handle donations would be appreciated. (It's a cinch this isn't going to be handled by the Red Cross or the anti-Scout United Way). Also, please call your local radio stations to request it.

Here is the final version.

MIDI - WEARIN' O THE GREEN

The Ballad of Mike Moran

I am Irish and was proud to serve with other firemen,
Who gave their lives for us that day, each one of them a friend,
In remembrance of my brothers who from earthly bonds did pass,
Osama, step right up and kiss my royal Irish ass.

They’re the bravest men I’ve known…and I’ll miss them everyday,
I will keep them in my heart, so they’re never far away,
In remembrance of my brothers, who from earthly bonds did pass,
Osama, step right up and kiss my royal Irish ass,
You’ll pay the price, but first you’ll kiss my royal Irish ass.

Never thinking of their safety, only saving other lives,
They never made it home to see their daughters, sons, or wives,
In remembrance of my brothers who from earthly bonds did pass,
Osama, step right up and kiss my royal Irish ass.

Try to take our freedom and you’ve made a big mistake,
The spirit of America, you’re never going to break.

Send it to G. Gordon Liddy -- he's been playing a lot of Lee Greenwood -- and he's nationwide.

Bravo, dfu. Well done. And how about trying WFAN is NYC? They carry Imus's radio show, and Imus has been playing Mr. Moran's audio clip quite a bit. Here's a link to their web site's contact page: click here.

Well, you can tell I'm not familiar with the sports radio format. Sigh...But on the FAN's homepage are links to their sister station, which might play music. And sending the song to WFAN might get it played by Imus, which would really get some airplay for The Ballad Of Mike Moran.

Imagine there in heaven,
They're easy if you try
72 burqua'd virgins
trying to catch your eye
Imagine all the pleasure
Martyr yourself today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Only Allah to die for
One religion true
Imagine all the people
Living Usama-style peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
but I'm not the only one
perhaps we'll force you to join us
and the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
We're fat while you hunger
We're the Taliban
Imagine all the people
Groveling in Our World

You may say I'm a dreamer
but I'm not the only one
Usama says we must join him
Don't fight back, we've just begun...

Who else would volunteer his considerable graphic talents to this effort than our own Registered. Let's give Rich some ideas about what needs to be on the cover of a CD. One of my ideas was a graphic showing the badge number of BCM and perhaps John's picture. Perhaps the flag being hoisted. Perhaps a tasteful posterior showing Osama bending to kiss it.
