Talk show host Tom Sullivan just reported that during a press conference Gov. Davis said he was notified that there is evidence that terrorists plan to target the Coronado Bridge (San Diego), the Golden Gate & Bay Bridges (San Francisco) and an LA Bridge (didn't catch the name) tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 2nd.

Why is grey-out Davis making this announcement, not the Feds? Is he grandstanding, or looking for Federal hand-out money?

The San Diego Zoo?

The National Guard has been ordered to lock and load in some parts of the country.

I heard it on Fox News and read it on Drudge...are those enough sources for you to make it legitimate news?
I'll bet those terrorists plan to drive cars loaded with explosives into the middle of those bridges and blow themselves and the bridges to smithereens!
How can they stop that without searching every car that goes over?

Yeah, ditto the Missouri River too. All the food from the farm belt. Everybody should stay on high alert and we're possibly getting a hurricane. We had a hurricane warning after 9-11 too. Oh, good. They think they have narrowed the search for Bin Laden to a handful of mountain sites. Hope they're right. The radio said that per DOD, if they kill him, they will have to preserve the body or nobody will believe he's gone. Sounds pretty confident to me. They must have a team of special ops ready to go.

The Golden Gate Bridge is a masterpiece of engineering; if you've ever been to Fort Point on the southern end, you will see what I mean. I don't think a truck bomb with fertilizer would be enough to do the job.
Anyway, I say mount a few .50's on the bridge approaches and maybe several 25 mm cannons here and there. Along the coast on both sides of the bridge there are quite a few old bunkers and gun implacements left over from WWII; I think they would still be useful for protection of the bridge and San Francisco, if the latter is still worth protecting.

Bridges are darn hard to blow up. Professional demolition guys have a heck of a time even with lots of time and tons and tons of explosives. War histories are filled with the stories of failed attempts.

I also forgot to mention Knott's Berry Farm and Six Flags Magic Mountain. There's also the San Diego Wild Animal Park, but that one's not as known as the San Diego Zoo. I'm not sure of anything north of Los Angeles, though, since I've only been north of Los Angeles once in my life.
My company just sent an email stating that because of the threat we can use our own descretion on coming to work. I most defantially think I will be working from home.

The governor said the state has "taken every step as humanely possible to tighten security." Did the moron actually say, "humanely possible"?
Is it Davis, or the news service idiots, who don't know the difference between "humanely" and "humanly"?

I'm somewhat ashamed to say it, but on Fox News, one of the anchors reporting on the danger to the four bridges referred to all of them as "suspension" bridges. I don't know about the other three, but the Coronado Bridge in San Diego is definitely NOT a suspension bridge.

I'm not one to give Governor Doofus a break, but the wire services were in a big rush to get this out. A typo seems to me to be a strong possibility.

Yeah, been to Fort Point but only was outside the car about thirty seconds. It was too cold for me cuz I took the wrong clothes to San Jose in 1978. I looked at the view and jumped back into the car. I was visiting a Jr. Lieutenant who was out of Moffitt Field. He flew big old planes every day up to Seattle and back while I played house and went shopping at the mall in San Jose that a plane flew into a few years back.

The Bay Bridge and Golden gate bridges are suspension type.

A caller to Tom Sullivan's show (KFBK) brought up a good question.
Oil tankers from the middle east go under the Golden Gate all the time. If one was head full speed into a support or explode under the bridge ? Sounds a lot like the MOA for 9-11.
How do you stop a tanker? Blow it up and the bay will be full of oil, which would also be very damaging.

Tugboats can push as well as pull. I don't know if the idea is feasable or practical, but they could attempt to use multiple tugs to push the tanker away.

My guess is it's all about votes for his next gubernatorial election. He wants his constituents to forget about his GRAYOUT Davis electricity policies. Do you agreee!!!!

The Bay Bridge and Golden gate bridges are suspension type. The Bay is two spans. The Oakland-Treasure Island span is cantilever. Treasure-SF is suspension. Golden Gates is pure suspension.

There has been no local news since the letter from St. Pete proved to be a hoax. After that, I wasn't paying attention to the content of the letter. Yes, the Skyway Bridge is a big one. It's already been hit by a barge once - big tragedy and was rebuilt. It's kind of yellow in color and it scares me on a good day.
