Talk show host Tom Sullivan just reported that during a press conference Gov. Davis said he was notified that there is evidence that terrorists plan to target the Coronado Bridge (San Diego), the Golden Gate & Bay Bridges (San Francisco) and an LA Bridge (didn't catch the name) tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 2nd.

LOVE CAN BUILD A BRIDGE, AND GRAY DAVIS CAN TELL PEOPLE IT'S UP TO THEM WHETHER THEY CROSS IT OR NOT.

I live about 2 minutes from the Arroyo Seco Bridge. There are actually two bridges. The old one is rebuilt and up and running and the other is the extention of the freeway 134 which has a bridge effect over the arroyo right next to the Rose Bowl. I am not going over that one for the next few days. Going the long route around for sure.

I would think any bridge would suffice , as a secondary target . I'm thinking of the 1 over in Benicia , The Benicia Bridge . At least that's always been what I called it when we lived out there . A spot not so majestic perhaps , but still ..

Remember the thread from October 13 about the anthrax letter from St. Petersburg referencing a Ryder truck and the Skyway Bridge?
Everyone speculated it was about blowing up the bridge in Florida but there are other bridges in the country with the same name.

FYI, the Justice Department is repudiating Gray Davis regarding this potential attack. Davis is looking like an even greater fool.

Together, I do believe that they are number 1 in the worldI agree, between Long Beach and LA Harbor I don't think there is a port in the world that handles more cargo. If not, its one of the top two or three in the entire world. The amount of cargo coming and going is tremendous.

In war bombardment taking out a bridge requires obliterating one or both of the bases, not the span. That said, how big of a pay load would be needed to take out the span? Still A lot!
Well on the SF Side the base of the bridge is not that difficult to get to, it's on the side of the street. Right now they are undergoing construction/reinforcement for earthquake stability so they have had them slightly blocked off by fences but a truck could very easily break through it. The thing that scares me is I see all kind of trucks driving and parked around it all day long, especially at the end of Spear st. which is a dead end street, a lot of them are rent-a-trucks too.
They are massive structures but a bomb the size of the Oklahoma City bomb would almost definitely take it out. On the brighter side there have been a lot of Fed cars driving around constantly, and I've seen them obviously following tanker trucks around. Another thing that worries me, although not so much, is the Oakland airport. A lot of low flying planes fly over the bridge, about 5 or 6 months ago I was leaving work and watch a TWA flight fly so low that at my perspective I was almost positive that it was going to hit the bridge. In the last month and a half I have thought of so many ways that one could destroy the bridge and I'm always looking out my window at the base and would immediately inform someone if I saw anything odd, especially now.

Here's a pic of just the LA Harbor, the Long Beach Harbor would continue off to the right ... the Vincent Thomas Bridge is rather strategic and could block a lot of commerce from continueing in the harbor.
But since we now know it's just Gray out Davis grandstanding again, so what ....?

I thank your son for his service. Thanks for the thanks! He just returned from "WestPac" as he calls it and was between Pearl Harbor and San Diego when the attack hit. He will be shipping out again soon, I am sure but the next time it will probably be on a Carrier.
I turned down the option of coming back with him from Hawaii to California with the hope that he'd be making tha trip again on a Carrier and the option would be extended again.
He was on the sister ship to the Cole, the Benfold. When he went on his first trip, he told me that and told me his bunk was right where the hole in the Cole was ... Really knows how to get to the old Dad! ;-)
His twin brother is in the Army, freshly trained in Arabic ... they may both be "invested" over there soon.

In San Pedro.

That area you're talking about worries me, too. Also, coming up bryant street south of the bridge would be a place where an okc explosion could take out the structure.
the worst case would be someone taking out that center structure that divides the west span into two mini spans.
OK, a proposal, if this threat ever becomes credible:
All people who pull into the "search your car" lane set up by the CA Highway Patrol get across the bridge without paying the $2 toll. Search is required of all who fit the "profile".
Also, don't you think that the most effective way to accomplish this bombing is to put several cars in convoy, each with a trunk full of fertilizer bomb? Vans and trucks will obviously be the first to be searched if this threat becomes credible, so I would expect the terrorists to consider alternate methods.

I'm soooooo glad that someone else thinks Michael Savage is nuts. To me he is the demagogue of talk radio. It's all about him, him, him. I started listening to him a few weeks ago, listened for a few days...until I just couldn't take it anymore.
To: evilsmoker
Can you say "diversion." If they are going to hit, I'd guess that they put out some misinformation first not simply as a distraction, but also to make us look foolish. Who's going to believe the next bit of info if we misidentify targets now? So the next time Davis says "bridges" everyone will shake their heads and laugh. That's when they attack the bridges.

Really, what significance is any target in California besides hollywood?...there is none. There is Disneyland, in Anaheim.
To: vikingcelt
you are not alone. he's a drama queen.
To: floriduh voter
If they want to cause real trouble they'd blow up the bridges crossing the Mississippi River. Look at a map there are surprising few bridges and most are old and decrepit. It would cut the northeast off from a lot of its food supply instantly.

The best preparation is to let terrorists know, we know what you're up to, we're ready for you." Davis saidYeah, right. Like we're ready for the bastids at the airports where the National Guard roam with unloaded rifles. Davis is a wimp who's more afraid of armed California citizens then he is of third world raghead terrorists. And he's got that other cowardly miscreant, the pussified AG, Bill (I hate your guns) Lockjaw to keep him company while they cower in their bunker.

Savage is rude and an idiot. Boortz is rude but he is intelligent and witty in a nasty way.
