MSNBC showed a distraught woman who said, "They were jumping.. the bodies..."
She couldn't or wouldn't say anything beyond that. I'm sure she was in shock. Horrifying.

I woke up in the middle of the night once and the building I lived in was in flames. My bedroom was filled with smoke. It was impossible to take a breath. I opened the window next to my bed, and could still not breathe. In that moment, there is no thought involved. Instinct takes over. The only thing that mattered was getting a breath.

Thank you for posting this. Any of the enemy captured and found responsible for this atrocity should be punished in a manner consistent with the the death of their victims: Drop them from aircraft flying at approximately 1600 feet above the ground. Sufficient time for them to contemplate what their victims experienced.

There had been a suggestion in a newspaper that helicopters might have rescued some people from the roof of the WTC, but that suggestion is too facile and forgets that a roof rescue would have been confronted with literally hundreds of panicy people, who could fill dozens of copters. I doubt enough copters could have been mobilized, particularly since a safe landing zone for all of them might not be available in that sort of crisis. Moreover, copter piloting with the updrafts of the fire would have been extremely risky and would have include the very real risk of a copter crashing into the same or a nearby building and thereby adding to the devastation.

I visited observation deck on July 4th 1979. I remember it well. This thread prompted me to look at the ticket stub I saved. I loved the view. I always wanted to dine at Windows on the World but never got a chance. Haunting is the right word for these pictures now. Also enraging!!

10 seconds of searing heat making your skin bubble would change your attitude immediately.Speaking from experience, I would've closed my eyes and jumped. Being on fire is not a very pleasant experience.

You know, as bad as you think it is going to be, watching those videos was worse than I imaginged. I'm just sitting here dumbstruck.
I used to walk to work everyday, right through the spot where those people are landing. I don't need to see those videos again.
(And the crappy death-metal music was definitely not appropriate.)

I'll tell you this much--if I worked up at that level, I'd have a parachute in the ol' cubicle, and just get up to the roof and take a running start...

That may be true but it's a one shot deal. Its the same here in Toronto with the revolving restaurant in the CN tower. Ate there once and that was enough. You pay for the view...the food is sort of secondary.

Let's bump this thread every time that goon Peter Jennings mentions civilian casualties in Afghanistan!

I guess you're right. I ate there once, and it was enough. I'll miss the place, but not the food (or the prices!)

How about this every time CNNABCNBCCBS show pictures of civilian casualties in Afgan hospitals they are also required to show video of the planes hitting the buildings and people leaping to their deaths.
To: EggsAckley
Thanks. I wanted to record what I saw and heard that day and in the following days so my own kids and grand kids would always remember ... never forget.
So we would always have the heart and commitment to remain vigilant, alert and ready to defend our liberty.
