Just a question to ponder: to each person reading this thread, how confident do you feel that the law enforcement community in your area is realistically capable of protecting you and yours? What about the Federal government?

I received this advice from a credible source (cryptic though it is): You need to be prepared. The FBI, the police, cannot be everywhere at the same time.
Not one iota. Our police chief is on paid leave of absence due to 'another' staff complaint of discrimination. I think this last one was, "my seniority rights were violated."

That sounds just like the police we have around here and I have no confidence in them. They won't be able to protect us because they aren't smart enough to figure out what's going on and they aren't really brave enough...they'd end up running in terror and leaving everyone to take care of themselves or due to lack of intelligence and because of ignorance they'd do something to make the situation worse and/or give out wrong info that will get many people killed or injured, in my opinion.
Each individual's protection is that individual's responsibility. The government is just as incompetent as it was prior to 9/11. Remember that everybody? When most of us here were making daily posts scoffing how incompetent this that or the other agency was? What has changed since then, other than the atmosphere of fear? Sure, most people are concerned about this, but truth be told, the one job that the Govt. is *supposed* to do is being terribly neglected. Meanwhile, we get the Patriot Act and other such worthless toilet paper legislation, we get the Office of Homeland Defense straight from a Nazi Germany horror file, as if we are the criminals or something.
You want security? Buy a firearm, get proper training in its use, and carry it concealed, laws to the contrary be d@mned. Buy decent ceramic filter water filters and make sure your stock of non perishable food is up to date. Insure that you have an alternative light and heat source. Not "survivalism" in the sense of wackmobile fatigue wearing 50 year olds, but rather good preparations for a threat that has been publicly made and carried out in portion by people meaning to destroy our nation, our lives, our children, our Constitution.
Or would you rather line up behind the scarce "relief" trucks that *might* show up in the event of a WMD attack? You're much more trusting than I am if that is the case. But then hey, what do I know, right?

Right after the attack, very confidant. Before the attack , zip, nada, zilch.
