I'm thinking it will be in the west for two reasons:

* Moving from the Mexican border across the whole US gives a greater chance of getting caught.

* An explopsion in the west would spread radiation across a larger area of the US.

So, further on this theory would mean the ROCKIES or east of the rockies. Doubt that it would get carried over them. The great plains man......wind goes on and on

Too bad it couldn't just go off in Hollyweird & eliminate some elitism.....I mean,if it's gotta go off someplace,might as well be where there are no law-abiding,God-fearing,patriotic Americans!!
