Heart of Texas CounterFReep Report
Heart of Texas Chapter | DrewsDad

Posted on 10/28/2001 6:42:00 PM PST by DrewsDad

We had a pretty good turnout of Heart of Texas FReepers to counter the Austin, Texas false-peacenik crowd. There were probably up to 20 or so FReepers and associates standing at the corner of 9th and San Jacinto providing a barrage of chants as the several hundred weak(well, a few of them smelled kind of strong) peaceniks passed by to their chosen spot in front of the Federal building.

The camera crews and reporters took notice of us and took lots of footage and interviews. I remember seeing KXAN TV 36 and there were some others as well. We played patriotic music and had numerous chants. We had lots of signs supporting our country, troops, President, and the effort to diminsh the terrorist threat. We had lots of American flags and a couple others(Don't tread on me). We even had a pamphlet to handout to the press and some others.

There were very few law enforcement officers on hand so there were a few verbal confrontations. Some of the socialists decided to park themselves right in the middle of our group to try to disrupt us. The was even a young punk on his bicycle profanely insulting our country between our chants or U.S.A U.S.A. We received numerous honks of support from the passing traffic and had a good time standing up for our great country.

My son Drew(of course) had a great time chanting and waving the flag. He was well overdue for a nap, so we had to leave before the traitor's pow-wow ended. We heard them renouncing the Pledge of Allegiance's inclusion of "Under God" as we passed by on the way to the car. I'll let some of the others fill in some details.

Well, I did a search and didn't find your report, so I did another one. I would have gladly just added a few words to this one.

Thanks for the nice photos, and thanks for getting them posted.

Maybe you can link our two posts.

Good work! Did you see any peacenik smokers? We had one at the Fresno freep Friday night. I yelled at him that he was bombing his own body. Then he threw it on the road and stepped on it with his foot. I yelled "Litterer!" Those peaceniks just ask for it, don't they? Thanks for your freep and for the great signs! For victory & freedom!!!

Great Pics!!

There were so many discussions I had with those poor lost kids that I didn't even remember many of them till I talked about it later with my wife and my neighbors.

I had a lot of fun. You Austin people are great!

The peacenick crowd was chock full of human refuse. It's been about about 30 years or so since I've seen so many hippie wannabes all in one place. They are so deluded.

"Can't we just talk instead of bomb?" one of their signs read. I'd like to see them shipped to Afghanistan so they can try to talk to the Taliban, especially the scantily dressed girls hanging out of their bra-tops.

I had no idea the tv crew was going to interview me, so I wasn't really prepared. I hope I sounded halfway coherent.

Great job guys. I wish I could have been there, but I've been having a problem with my voice all week, and I got up this morning and couldn't even speak. Oh well..... You got some pretty good coverage on the CBS and NBC stations. I didn't get a chance to catch any of the other broadcasts. I sorry I had to miss out on all the fun.

austingirl: You have a HONK FOR OUR TROOPS sign ...

I took your suggestion and had a "HONK FOR OUR TROOPS" It did get many honks - but we didn't have many cars coming down this street as it was mostly blocked off to traffic due to it being a FEDERAL building. Interesting.

Thanks again for the idea.

Good FReeping morning, Gracey.

Check out this thread. We learned well from the Sacramento FReepers a day earlier :-)

Ready to go back to cruising? Thanks for "team leading" our snorking adventures.

I am ready right now to go cruising again! Saving my FRNs for the next one -- not likely I will win the poetry contest again!

Gracie, you and Ironjack need to practice your snorkeling before the next cruise. The FReeRepublic UDT squad must be prepared for all possible contingincies!

We missed you! I hope you can make it next time and I think there will be a next time. These yahoos will not go away. I am encouraged, though, when I realize that they could only scrounge up this many cretins in a state-wide dragnet.

Thanks, notaliberal, for tipping us about a HONK FOR OUR TROOPS sign. But WE DID HAVE ONE, thanks to Gracie, and you are SPOT ON--it worked great! Lots of noisy honks at our sign by passing Austinites...Yesssss!!! It was fab for me to meet batlady, austingirl, basil, drewsdad & GRACIE-- double thanks to her. I drove from my home in Abilene over 250 miles for this honor, & there was Gracie on sight early & welcoming the weary traveler, "lost" stranger & novice Freeper to the scene. Thank you all for that Freedom Freep!

Aye-aye, Squad Leader. Now that we've taken down the Afghani Air Force, what's our next target? Or is it still classified?
