********************How do you like WINDOWS XP?********************
From me ^ | 27 Oct 01 | Democrats are liars

Posted on 10/27/2001 11:16:24 AM PDT by Democrats are liars

Well, I just finished installing Windows XP on my computer. It did not go nice and smooth. I ended up reformatting my hard drive and starting from scratch. I know Windows XP sure does not like AOL 6.0. I am in the process of downloading AOL 7.0. I am still installing all my old software. Yes Windows XP locked up on me many times today and last night. Well, I guess I just would like to know how every one else is doing with Windows XP.

AOL is not for everyone, but it is a good place for others.

That's true, but it surprises me when I see someone here uses it.

I evaluated the beta release of XP and at that time many of the programs I tried to use simply would not run under XP. Perhaps the final release is better. I'll stick with NT4.0.

The majority of People will most likely wait and see how many exploits/bugs pop up,
and are skeptical about the hurried realease date that was bumped up a month.

I've been using XP Pro for a month on an AMD 400-megahertz with 384 Megs of memory. I love it. Extremely stable. Installation was a bit of a pain, but otherwise, it's been cool.

I have AOL satellite. (AOL PLUS). I live in the middle of nowhere so my options are somewhat limited. I have had many ISPs in the past. They are all about the same. I think! Windows XP looks nice. It has not locked up for several hours now. I guess time will tell how stable it really is.

So far it seems that everyone who likes XP is running large amounts of RAM. Has anyone with 128 or less had any luck with XP?

I installed it last night, Took ~1 hour for the install, went smoothly. Just 1 glitch when it was trying to activate the software, the modem could not get a dial tone???? Went online after the install was complete and finshed activating it without any problems. Don't like the acivation feature, have two computers at home which means that to upgrade both will cost close to $200. MS does offer a additinal license for $89.

The install did clear up an problem the I was having with a delay with my modem when connecting to the internet. It looks good, seems stable and runs all of my programs. Except for the cost, I would give it an early grade of A.

Doing great! I am liking it so far. Very fast. But, I put it on a brand new machine that is nearly the top of the line. It also took me a short while to figure out where they put everything.

My computer wholesaler tried XP on several machines for about 2 hours. At this moment, he is flashing the bios to get rid of the copy protection, F-Disking, and reinstalling W2K. No machines he sells will have XP. XP is a dog that won't hunt.

I bought the pro version. It did take forever to load and set up, including 2 self-restarts to get it up and running. But as I said on the other thread, 20 seconds from turning it on until I see the latests posts page... can't complain about that!
