America IS NOT AT WAR!!!
Get that through your mind.
Only Congress can declare war
and they don't have the cajones to do it.
This is Vietnam all over again. Politically Correct BS.

This "War on Terrorism" is just double-talk.
Like the "War on Crime," it will never end.

For us to be at war, a country must be declared an enemy.
What our government has said instead is,
"We're going to fight all the bad people of the world."

Remember, Freepers?
Just months ago, we were all saying,
"We can't police the whole world!!"

What changed your mind?

Not to mention most of the provisions sunset in 4 years.

Nothing ever goes away.

Thanks for the support...however it is very clear to me that the majority of so called conservatives just don't get it.talk about herding cats..it will take 6 months plus before they wake-up....no sense in beating ones head against the wall....done that for the past decade everything we have said has come to pass to no avail....save yourself my friend...let the "useful idiots" find out for themselves

I would suggest, MJY1288,
that we enforce the laws we have,
instead of violating the rights of citizens.
Our "politically correct" government allowed this attact to happen.
We couldn't show dis-respect to countries known to be sponsoring terrorists
by keeping out that countries citizens, now could we?
Our government let people come over here
and learn skills that could be used against us.
Does that "provide for the common defense?"
You worry about poorly enforced immigration laws?
The men who crashed the planes were here legally.
Legal residents from countries known to sponsor terrorism.
I don't believe that's a reason
to tell good American citizens
to abandon their rights.

Well said. I concur. Enforce the laws on the books. We don't need new "feel good" laws. 20,000+ gun laws haven't stopped shootings, rape laws haven't stopped rapes, murder laws haven't stopped murder, burglary/theft laws haven't stopped those crimes, what makes some people think a new law does anything other than steal another freedom from us?
# 195 by poet

===============

As you've said, poet, it's a case of "feel-good" laws.

"Hey, Voters!!
Look at Me!!
I'm DOING something!"

Yes, only what you're doing is violating my God-given rights.

MHG...there will ALWAYS be those who will attempt to exploit our freedoms for their evil purposes. Evil ALWAYS tries to make us fearful of righteousness. And Big Government ALWAYS tries to make us fearful of freedom. Should we be suckered into those fears?
If so...then the terrorists win a bigger victory than they feel they accomplished on 9/11.
And as for those "harsh measures" that we accept now "because there's a war on"...the measures that now give leeway to the government to go after "terrorists" among American citizens...how long do you think it will take them to broaden the definition of "terrorists"?
And having now given itself such powers...will we have the power to force government to rescind those "harsh measures" when this War On Terrorism is over...if it ever WILL be over?
Declaring wars against ideals rather than a flesh-and-blood enemy, btw, is in my opinion a "mind screw" to give those in power now an open-ended invitation to come up with any means their creative minds can think of to justify taking more authority for themselves at the expense of our freedoms.
So when OBL and the Taliban are eliminated...will this War On Terrorism be over?
Or will we find another "good reason" for government to stomp on our liberties...as long as The Right Guy is in the White House?
Hint: No President

"Let's put it this way, I am being shot at. You are not"

Excuse me????? Then why the heck have my rights been trampled on then if this has nothing to do with me?

"My point of view may be a bit different. Still, the Fourth Amendment allows reasonable searches and seizures."

When an agency can sneak into your house, do as they wish, leave and not say anything about it you think thats a protection under the 4th Amendment? I have some info for you, the 4th Amendment is not protected anymore. The only amendment protected in this act is the 1st Amendment.

"During wartime it seems to me it is reasonable to search aliens and to take their stuff. I read through the bill that passed, and it comes down pretty hard on aliens."

For the most part all that comes down on them are in amendments to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978

"Folks who oppose that bill, whether they know it or not, are actually asking that enemy aliens who are actually plotting and planning mayhem in this country be given special protection.

"WHAT!!!!!????? You have some nerve saying that to me, how dare you imply that by opposing this bill I am protecting the enemy

The day I raised my hand and swore to defend this country I was more than willing to lay down my life to protect you, what has now been taken by this act and what you can so easily give away and I would do it again. Also if you wrote that because you think I am stupid and only you can show me the way, DONT EVER BOTHER AGAIN

"That is preposterous." Yes it is and so are you.

"And please read the bill that passed - not that mindless garbage that got spun out of the Jutice Department word processor."

I will read everything and if you have read anything, I sure can not tell by anything you wrote.

You never swore to "die". You swore to defend and protect. It only helps when the enemy dies.

Now, get on with it - go that way. They are over there, not here!

No one posting at FR except the professional Mossad folks has any other than the best interests of the country at heart.

A war is on and presumably none of us are doing anything to undermine the war effort are we?

I know American can count on me, but I don't know about the others.

Our borders and immigration policies have become a national digrace and now complete national security nightmare. If they are serious, why haven't they ended this "immigration free for all"?

because the U.N said you have to do it

Okay, muawiyah.
You said,

"...No one posting at FR ??except the professional Mossad folks??

Stop holding out on us, muawiyah.
What have the filthy Jews done this time?

Are you that sure that the "professional" terrorist nations
don't have posters on this forum?

Marvin, I have always admired your thinking, until you were OK with Bush's FCR.
"The babies are already dead. We might as well use them."

I disagree with that.

I have not trusted GW since then.

Yes, I guess he is better than Gore.

If there is not a good viable candidate running in 2004, I will not vote for President.

We need to be able to vote" none of the above". I bet that would get a lot of votes. But we aren't allowed to do that.

. I'm not saying I like the idea of losing protected rights but before you criticise the actions taken, have an answer to the problem. How would you stop the terrorist?

It may not be PC to say so but all the terrorists have the same MO. They were all Arab Muslims. That much we know.

What would I do?

Deport all non citizen Arab Muslims and if necessary all Muslims and all Arabs. Those who remain would undergo an extensive background check. I would close the borders. No more Muslims allowed in.

But before I did all that I would make a formal declaration of war so that such actions on my part were legal.
