H.R.3162
Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism (USA PATRIOT ACT) Act of 2001
Presidents may come, and presidents may go...but Big Government's hunger lasts forever.
BTW...God help us all if we get President Hillary or some such in the Oval Office - with a liberal Democrat Congress -a few years' hence and THAT Administration and Congress decides to "flesh" the Patriot Act out a little more...
"Are you now or have you ever been a member of Free Republic?"
BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Priceless and humorous Quote Of The Day!
BTW, you rock!!!
Wow, how profound. One must wonder how this nation made it through 235 years without having to resort to police state laws that are in direct conflict with the 4th Amendment.
And what was the date in which Congress declared war?.
Funny how all of a sudden the nation is infested with terrorists, where were they 2 months ago?. Why were they not a problem then?. Can we have a list of known terrorist groups?.
Have any more lame excuses to try and justify undermining the Constitution with?.

"...I believe in a smaller federal gov't too,
but right now, America is at WAR with international terrorism
and that should be the focus of all good patriotic Americans.
Right now it's my focus.

Focus on the truth, Reagan Man.
We are not at war.
That would require a Declaration of War.
We don't have one.
What we have is another "War on (blank)"
Fill in the blank, Reagan Man.
Just like the "War on Crime,"
just like the "War on Drugs,"
what we have is an attack on our freedom.
We have laws already in place to combat terrorism.
We don't need to give up any rights to protect ourselves.
In fact, if we give up our rights,
we won't be able to protect ourselves.

During wartime the meaning of "unreasonable" might well change, eh?!
I think we are long overdue going after the terrorists still in the US.
Most of our search efforts heretofore were being stymied
by peacetime 4th Amendment considerations.

Oh, how inconvenient those stupid God-given rights are.
We are still in "peacetime," muawiyah.
Why should we be told to abandon our rights
when we are not at war?
Thank you, Mr. Squeeze. It is alarming to see these so-called conservatives on FreeRepublic bend over for whatever Bush does. Their tyranny-detecting radars that worked so well during the years of the Toon have been turned off completely since Bush took over. Anything he does is quickly justified, and those who dare question his actions are derided viciously. Day after day I can't believe what I'm reading on this forum from people who have abandoned all their suspicions of government. Michael Savage was right.....the fascists and nazis will come to us not with jackboots and uniforms, but in business suits with a lollipop and a smile.
Evil ALWAYS tries to make us fearful of righteousness.
And Big Government ALWAYS tries to make us fearful of freedom.
Should we be suckered into those fears?
If so...then the terrorists win a bigger victory than they feel they accomplished on 9/11.
And as for those "harsh measures" that we accept now "because there's a war on"...the measures that now give leeway to the government to go after "terrorists" among American citizens...how long do you think it will take them to broaden the definition of "terrorists"?
And having now given itself such powers...will we have the power to force government to rescind those "harsh measures" when this War On Terrorism is over...if it ever WILL be over?
Declaring wars against ideals rather than a flesh-and-blood enemy, btw, is in my opinion a "mind screw" to give those in power now an open-ended invitation to come up with any means their creative minds can think of to justify taking more authority for themselves at the expense of our freedoms.
So when OBL and the Taliban are eliminated...will this War On Terrorism be over?
Or will we find another "good reason" for government to stomp on our liberties...as long as The Right Guy is in the White House?
Hint: No President
