Our governor has formed a terrorism task force (he's a democrat, so the first thing they do is form a committee to talk) and I am sure they are finding out how woefully we are prepared for terrorism.
One part that really got me thinking was about America's run of luck. I, too, feel that America has been lucky -- or blessed, to put it better -- but it's important to see that our blessings have often been a result of doing something right. Not exactly that we earned the blessings, but that we had good foundations which led us to not veer too far off the path that keeps the blessings flowing.
At that point in her article, I thought I detected something that is taken for granted by liberals, that we should feel guilty for what we do have. I don't want to feel guilty for anything I have, but want to be good and diligent to be thankful for what I have and to know what I'm doing to keep the blessings flowing so I don't stop that and can help others do the same.
It also got me thinking about something I wrote and posted here at FR back in January. I had this sense that coming to the age of the Clinton era America as in danger of running head first into the truth and being unprepared. I just thought that something would happen in America to make us wake up from our false sense of reality.

We as a people (not speaking of the very small percentage who are FReepers and thinkers) have been so led astray by the last administration and the media lap-dogs that we have almost fallen off the planet. There are millions of Americans, in my view, who have no concept of the severity of the situation, don't care because "it hasn't happened" in their small community yet and the value of their 401K is dropping "too fast".
What a wake up call this has been and some people pushed the "snooze" button.
I once had an office manager who didn't know that Switzerland was in Europe.
Somehow we need to get people to understand that these events are NOT boring and that they need to understand what's going on!!
Oddly enough, popping into my brain as I woke today were similar ideas.
Your ideas also reminds me of a passage of Luke (6:48) we read yesterday in Bible study.

The flood still came, but the house survived.
As a country, we can only do the right thing. There are no guarantees that we will be free of troubles.
I knew the Roselyn bakery had closed in Noblesville, but had no idea why!
And the paper used to be conservative, after all it was owned by Dan Quayle's family.
So who investigates the newspaper????Hmmmm????

I agree! If our Nation is built on intelligence and morality, which I believe it is (in large measure), then we shall persevere and prevail!
They have an ombudsman column which basically says "You readers complain but you don't understand how ignorant you are and how we are going to do what we darn well please."
My grandfather was a pressman for that paper, my brother worked as an electrician for them, and my sister the art teacher once worked in their art department. They have changed, and not for the better. I am glad I cancelled my subscription. I have often said that if I won a big powerball prize, I would fund a competitive paper. I KNOW I would make money hand over fist, because there is a great deal of griping around here about the paper. Local talk radio is full of people who are disgusted.
I think, since I am not a wealthy person, I might write Rupert Murdoch to see if he might be interested. Ha!
What is the deal with Rupert Murdoch? I know he owns Fox and I figure that's a positive comment about the man. But I have Australian friends, very conservative (kind of conspiracy types) who talk about Ruper Murdoch as if he's the devil personified. I'd like to know more about him, but in the meantime, I consider him a guy who knows a good business deal when he sees one. Fox was a can't-miss coming into the market that had nothing but liberals dominating and conservatives with no place to turn but radio.
BTW: The Lilly foundation gave $30 MILLION to the WTC disaster fund.
My mention of Murdoch is because I am convinced it WOULD make money, and he has the money and experience to invest.
