Military Helo flying low over I-15 in Vegas (my title)
Co-worker
Posted on 10/24/2001 4:09:19 PM PDT by sungod
A co-worker just called me to say that he was watching an American Military Helicopter flying 100 Feet above Interstate 15 in Las Vegas. He said it popped out from behind the Bellagio Hotel/Casino, then flew over 15, then following the exit to I-95. He said all the cars were breaking to see what was going on. This is a confirmed sighting by a friend/co-worker. I will try to get more details.
I-15 is the major freeway here in Vegas. This time of day it is a traffic mess like any major city is. 95 is also a major freeway.
It may be nothing, but I think we can all admit that this isn't standard military practice.

I've seen two such helicopters flying low over I-495 which is the beltway that rings Washington, D.C. It was very disconcerting. Someone told me it's the aircraft that checks for speeders. Why I've never seen it before September 11, I don't know.

Shucks, just your military protecting the citizens... go out and give them a big wave. Don't you feel good now that you can see them about knowing they are watching over you?

Hmmmm...going to Vegas next month. I was debating between the Venetian and the Bellagio. Think I'll try the former.

I was at National Airport a few days after 9/11, trying to get my return ticket cancelled, and saw a pair of Apaches. They flew across the Potomac and over the airport--and I saw live rockets and Hellfires loaded.
Most sobering experience I had that week.

This is the last time I post anything here. Now you done did gone and done did did it. This post would have faded away in 50 replies... we're headed toward 200 now.
At least.

Don't get discouraged, Sungod. Some folks need to make a joke out of anything. Just ignore them and keep posting.

A few days after 9/11 a fighter jet flew over my house here in Houston at about midnight. Best feeling I'd had in days knowing those guys are up there.

Nah, we have plenty of standard police helicopters here. No need for military equipment. They are very aggressive with the police choppers here, but I don't see miltary equipment over here by the strip hardly ever. Nellis isn't far, and they generally avoid this part of the city.

I wouldn't be too worried. Maybe Steve Winn bought him a black hawk and he was just visiting Bellagio to see how bad the service has gotten since he sold it.

I didn't know whether to keep driving right into the face of the ones I saw (which from my limited knowledge did look like Apaches) or 4-wheel it off into the woods.

It's cool pooh..I'm just having one of those days. I noticed that this site is killer for instant news, way faster than your standard news outlets, so I though I would post this in case it was something important. Like I said, it was an odd occurance for Vegas. Imagine the people walking around down in the strip seeing a miltary chopper fly between the hotels. Wish I had seen it.

The sight of combat aircraft patrolling America was and is chilling. So were the faces of Bush, Gephardt, Daschle and others the day of and day after the attack. I knew the second I saw them there was more to this than the WTC and the pentagon. The media didn't. They were on auto-pilot, doing the "Blame Bush" for not returning to DC crap. But even those idiots finally realize the enormity of what occurred.
To: Ligeia
Not so much scared, as I was sobered.
I'd driven past the Pentagon that morning, and the damage is much worse in person (TV cameras don't give you an idea how BIG the Pentagon is). Also, the word was that a few sailors I've worked with as a defense contractor over the past couple years died at their duty stations.
The armed gunships patrolling the Potomac Basin just reminded me how much things had changed.

thanks for the info ... ... don't pay any attention to Poohbah, he always harasses everyone ... ... I happen to know that whenever army helicopters fly over civilian areas they generate complaint calls from citizens and the army is very sensitive to civilian complaint calls; so I'd say they were engaged in their job if they were 100 ft above the freeway rather than just hot-dogging. Perhaps the helo was fitted with special equipment to allow them to listen to conversations in cars if they point the device towards that car. Such devices exist. Who knows?

My other thought was, "If the cops try to arrest some terrorists, and the terrorists try to run away on I-395...man oh man, wouldn't THEY get a little surprise?"

I need to get more details, but I wanted to post the info I had in case it turns out to be significant in some way. Someone must have phoned it into the news stations. I'll be watching.
