ROME -- Pope John Paul II, in a move with possibly major political repercussions, offered an olive branch to China Wednesday, apologizing for errors of the colonial past and pleading for the establishment of diplomatic relations.

In his appeal to Beijing's communist government, which prohibits Catholics from recognizing his authority, the pope said the world was facing "profound disquiet" and would benefit if both sides had direct dialogue.

I love the current Pope, but he doesn't get it. China considers him one of the architects of the fall of the Soviet Union, and is really, really afraid of him (absurd as it sounds.)

There's nothing absurd about that fear on the part of Chinese officials. They know that once they allow any recognition of the Pope and Magesterium their days will be numbered.

Someone once asked Solzhenitsyn about the collapse of the Soviet Union, and he said that he knew the nation's demise was imminent when they allowed Mother Teresa's order to open a home for the sick and dying in Moscow.

I'm a non-Catholic Christian, but have always liked JPII, esp since he and Reagan helped bring down the Soviet Empire, (Gorby helped that along as well). I'll hate it when he passes and is replaced by the typical Pope that has occupied that office for millennia, (read Fox's Book of Martyrs: not sure about the present, but this organization in the past has committed crimes that are non-Christian, to put it mildly). But for the present, JPII seems to be tolerable, and I prefer Catholicism, (the kind less Inquisitions), over Communism any day of the week. Look out, Falun Gong......

The replacement Christ is trying to spread it's man derived theocracy to an atheistic society. Sounds like fireworks to me.

read Fox's Book of Martyrs:

You would be doing yourself a big service if you took the time to check into all the inaccuracies, distortions, lies and myths contained in this book, fwiw.

Go back to the satanic hole you crawled out from, you heretical demon. May God and Christ have mercy on you for your slander.

The word vicar means in place of or replacement. Communistic governments by their very nature are athestic. Where's the slander?

In the sense that it is used for the Pope, it means "representative here on earth." He does not replace Christ, the Son of God. But you are right about one thing - communism is atheistic.

As instructed by the messiah, all prayer/contact is to be through him, not another, to the father. He is our High Priest and comming King. He being of the father and God, has earned the right of rulership and praise. No man born of man and woman can observe all physical and spiritual teachings and instructions of God. Therefore no man can represent the Messiah on earth. We can only strive to be like him as individuals and grow in his instructions with the faith that his sacifice has and will cover our unintentinal trangressions.

Well then I guess the next time I say the Our Father, I should really say, "Jesus, can you tell God this for me?...'Our Father, who art in Heaven...'"

I do believe you are getting it. You do indeed ask the father in the name of the son. Good Job.

Nothing you wrote contradicts the Bishop of Rome's role as vicar of Christ on earth. Glad we're on the same page.

Well, except for this part:

"Therefore no man can represent the Messiah on earth."

Christ made the rules - I just follow them.

Kefa(Peter) as well as all the talmidim(students) of Y'shua HaMashiach(the Messiah) were to instruct(feed) the flock. The food is the Torah. As far as Kefa's leadership role, he was a member of the Yerushalim Sanhedren, but Ya'kov(James) was the Nasi(President).

Lets have some personal testimonies like;"there I was, boat overturned about to drown when a hand reached down and saved me-stuff me if it wasn't Jesus Christ ,or there I was about to be made bankrupt when a check for $250,000 signed by J Christ lobbed and saved the day.I've read the Nag Hagandi,Dead Sea Scrolls and Egyptian legends,Horus becomes Seths son what a turn for the books.

Unequivocal statements based on someone where there is 1.no record of him till 110ad and then spurious at best,no oral tradition,The Australian aboriginals have stories 20,000 years old one would think 2000 not a problem

.I believed I prayed I obeyed your God and his promises are abject bollocks and a road to pain and dementure, not one prayer answered and there never will be,yes there was a Jesus and John the Baptist type figures in the Essene community but his message -we all are linked to the creator, theres no need for babblers and high priests has been erased from history and replaced with the biggest compendium of myth, legend and bollocks to ever vex the human mind. Now however his story AND HIS WORDS have been found it is hidden,we still don't have over 70% of those scrolls available, well one guy posted a lot on the internet, the church was ropeable to which he responded its public domain its out there now,the truth will be out and the demented thing that comes to fulfill your unassailable text I shall fight with a passion. His name is Allah,Seth,God the Father and many other names.Jesus message was the same as Buddha's we all come to right mindedness,I've been conned.

There are extra-biblical references to the Messiah. Joshephus and The Jerusalem Talmud. Start with these and they will direct you to others.
