National Postal Equipment Repair Building Evacuated in Topeka After 8 Employees Report Illness
The Topeka Capital Journal ^ | October 23, 2001 | Chris Moon

Posted on 10/23/2001 6:34:25 PM PDT by umbra

The building (National Postal Equipment Repair Facility) had recieved equipment from five postal facilities that had been contaminated with anthrax on the East Coast.

The decision to evacuate the building (at the Forbes Industrial Park in Topeka, Kansas) came after seven employees called the health agency Tuesday morning reporting flu-like symptoms. An eighth person who works as a postal worker in Topeka reported similar symptoms.

The health agency responded by taking nasal swabs from each employee for testing by the Kansas Department of Health and Enviornment.

Guess which FReeper went to Forbes to inspect and leave a sealed bid on an old antique postal safe today.

Were you in the building? If so, get yourself checked.

They should just stop the darn mail!

The financial impact would be huge.

Okay I just looked it up. 675,000 Americans died and more than 20 million around the world. A horrible catastrophe.

The economy will be dead-in-the-water anyway once the next phase of the anthrax campaign gets rolling. Get used to the idea.

Not questioning that. I'm going overseas in 3 weeks and wanted to get a smallpox shot. Told flatly "no". I'm appealing all the way to the state offices then the governor if need be. I don't want to be caught on an airplane or overseas with this as a possible way to croak.

Just a few weeks ago, the second case of anthrax was posted on FR and the person who posted it got jumped but good by those claiming what that person had seen on local TV was not true.

It took over three hours for the report to be confirmed by AP.

And we know what has happened since.

WARNING

1. Do NOT open your mail 'in' your home, office, church, school, or around children.
2. Have plastic trash containers ready for 'dumping' all your mail.
. 3. Your mail includes booklets, magazines, newspapers, letters, packages, and various ads.
IMHO

Snail mail will never be the same. Watch as investors pour money to technologies that offer a solutions to the current weakness. Recent events have finally pushed me to switching to electronic bill payments. Should have done it years ago, but I'm one to put things off.

I have a better suggestion. Forward all suspect mail to Randi Rhodes care of WJNO radio in West Palm Beach Florida. This liberal Democrat was on for 4 hours today screaming about how the war against terrorism is a shuck and jive, how the Bush family is going to profit from it and how rich Republicans are doing this to us.

Randi panders to the condo critters here. Imagine a Lynn Samuels without humor and more to the left and you've got Randi pegged.

This sick part of it all is she has a great following in the Palm Beaches. Liberal Jews here hang on her every word. Can't walk thru a flea market and not see some jerk wearing a Randi Rhodes T-shirt.

Does everyone mean all of the people who were at that facility? If so, there is the Freeper FreedomFarmer who should know this. You might want to freepmail him with whatever info you heard, locally. Man, I sure hope things will be OK there. This thing keeps on broadening.

I am not sure. At least it means anyone with symptoms. I will see what they say in the morning.

4. Open your mail ONLY in Direct SUNLIGHT.

Won't help in the least. Anthrax spores are a lot hardier than that.

The anthrax bacterium itself isn't, but the whole point of making a spore is that it builds a protective shell around the bacterium, like the husk of a coconut.

I understand that you have folks back here so I will ask you the same question that I asked rwfromkansas.

Let me preface the question.

I work at Boeing in Wichita. I have heard of at leat 3 times in the last week that people here have received mail with no return address, but a postmark from California, that is stuffed with a Wichita newspaper section, and that also has a note to the person this is addressed to, that states basically that they must read this, but no indication which article that they should read.

There is no powder in these envelopes. The Wichita PD took the envelope from at least one of these 3, but have not made any further contact.

Have you heard of anyone here in the Wichita area that has received something like that, and do they also work at Boeing?

I think it is probably a prank by someone else at a Boeing Califonia plant, designed to scare people, but I would like to know if there is something else to this.

Thanks,

Jane

My neighbors, G-d bless them, have to look at me as I lay my mail out about me, naked as the day I was born! (I'm only kidding, TS!) No. I am not queasy about my mail. I understand why postal employees are. But we must muster on! Screw OBL and everything he sits for. (And he is always sitting and sipping ~tea~ although I think it is heroin!) But that is only because I am a bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad girl! :o) fsf
